Huh???????

I knew him nearly 40 years ago, back when our teacher Mr. Boettcher called him "little Jimmy Harbaugh." But never have I in all these four decades associated him with his hat. Matt Drudge maybe, but not Harbaugh.

I thought I knew who you were talking about until I read about the hat. Clicked anyway.

Every Saturday in the fall I root for two teams: the Fighting Illini and whoever is playing Michigan.

Whoops. Thought we were talking about Trump. Never mind.

You're going to have a very long, very disappointing season. (Illinois got blown out today, at home, by a friggin' MAC team...from Michigan.)

GO BLUE!

@Rob, I was an undergraduate in the block 'I' when Dick Butkus was playing. Nothing has gone right since.

Looks like there are pressure cooker bombs in NYC. One exploded and one dud. CNN anchors are really hoping this isn't a Muzzie or another inconvenient perpetrator.

Never been a fan of Harbaugh. Pick one.

Hasn't beat the Buckeyes. Won't this year either. Of course that's why he's there. Michigan is 3-13 against the Bucks since 2000.

He falls under sports names. I have no idea who any of them are.

Humperdink said...

@rhhardin. Even for the casual sports fan, the Harbaugh family members are easy to spot. They typically operate at 440 volts DC. They are usually seen running up and down the sidelines berating the officials. They make Wayne Woodrow Hayes look like Mother Teresa in the sports world.

So I got a subscription to Smithsonian magazine. I knew little about it except it had behind it the prestige of the Smithsonian Institute. I expected it to be a survey course sort of thing for an educated general readership; laypeople who want to learn something about what sort of advances are going on in the world.

What sold me was the cover I saw on display at the library. Dark and dangerous-looking with an ancient helmet and the word "GLADIATOR" boldly in white.

How totally cool is that?

Anyway, turns out that the article about some archaeological site where used to stand a gladiator training facility is mostly about the career of the guy in charge of the operation. That's filler, so far as I'm concerned.

It's fucking People magazine, for crying out loud. Must be aimed at women.

Twelve dollars down the drain.

EtFB,

Science magazines went to that model decades ago. They think it makes the articles more interesting. See, it's all about the "process of discovery."

Perhaps the model was imported from science documentaries. To me, it works better there.
