"Biden expected to skip first Democratic debate."

CNN reports.

So then if, at the last minute, he decides to drop in — and CNN has given him until the last minute to decide — it will be an opportunity for media folk to whip out their favorite adverb: unexpectedly!

It's all just so unfair to Hillary. Don't prepare to fend off Biden? And yet, he may surprise us. If it seems advantageous when the time comes. He's got 22 days to tease us, excite us (over what is essentially an utterly boring prospect — Joe Biden running for President again).

How much must Obama hate Hillary!

Democrats should just cede the next presidency to a Republican (even a populist) and then ask themselves how that happened.

That may be what happens anyway.

So it has come to this for Dems: dual-plagiarizing, repeat-loser Grandpa must come off the bench to sub for bimbo-suppressing, congenitally-lying Grandma. What a party.

Once again, this demonstrates that the CriminalLiberalMedia are merely operatives of the Democrat Party.

Where is the seriousness? The gravitas? It's not a cocktail party. "Oh, just drop by if you can make it." It's a race for the most powerful position in the world! CNN isn't taking it seriously enough.

I'm not a fan of Hillary, but it's totally unfair to her. "We might have a surprise guest!" (To our debate for people seeking the office of the President of the United States!) It's so television. I couldn't hate it more.

I guess she'll have to treat it like a 3 AM phone call.

Or more likely Biden just isn't running, and the media is desperate to find some story on the Democratic end of the primaries.

I wonder what the state ballot rules are if a party's nominee drops out late in the game (we saw the Dems in NJ flout their state's rules when Torricelli tanked a decade ago) and the party wants to sub someone in. If that becomes complicated (particularly in swing states conrolled by the GOP) it would be a bit risky counting on Hillary not imploding next year.

I still think Biden just has no interest in running.

If Hillary isn't elected, it will be so unfair!

Bwahahahahaha!

NOTHING Joe Biden could possibly do that would "excite" me in any way, except retiring.

If elected, Biden may choose to skip the first year of his Presidency.

For the Good of the Country.

If Biden runs, who can he find that is even dumber than him to be his Biden?

"If Biden runs, who can he find that is even dumber than him to be his Biden?"

You are underestimating the stupidity of the Democrats' bench. Look at Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and Maxine Waters. Standing next to them Biden looks like a modern day Cicero.

Hillary should be welcoming any Biden speculation and Sanders coverage. It fills news space that would otherwise be devoted to just how lousy her policy proposals are.

Those debates are going to be sadly boring--just Hillary, Sanders and some space-fillers.

Biden drops in "unexpectedly"? Is this the equivalent of the 3 a.m. phone call that Hillary was supposed to be able to handle? Let's see how quick on her feet she can be.

Oh--my bad. Hillary is a lot of things, but quick on her mental feet isn't one of them. On the other hand, what would you think if Old Slow Joe showed up on your doorstep at three in the morning? Would you get that shotgun and go out on the balcony and fire off a round or two? I mean that's what Joe advised about unwelcome early morning visitors.

Joe's handlers decided it's better if he doesn't know if he will be there.

Massachusetts would be a good place to look. Deval Patrick has already been suggested. Maybe Martha Coakley?

If they want to have fun, they could tell him he's going to give a speech to the local chapter of the Kiwanis Club, and about a half hour through the questions it'll occur to him he's at a debate, and will say "I'm beginning to think you guys aren't affiliated with the Kiwanis Club at all!"

10/1/15, 10:04 AM"

That dynamic duo have reached their pinnacle of success. Both have gerrymandered districts that have devised by the most brilliant minds to make their election possible.

Coakley couldn't win in MA and Patrick couldn't get elected again in MA even if he bribed the voters.

Slow Joe's problem is that he is the dumbest electable politician nationally so anyone he picks by default would be smarter than him. Not good if being life insurance for Joe is the goal as was Obama's goal when he picked him.

"Biden Not Expected," does this mean Biden is not expected, Biden does not expect, or both?

The Dems sure are the pary of the young!

So is the mentally disable Martin O'Malley the only Dem in the field not eligible for Social Security? Or does his mental condition permit him to draw SSDI?

Unknown said...

Maybe they should just go ahead and put his name on the ballot and he can let us know a day or two before the election if he's running.

I Would like to see a Democrat debate if only for the comedic and cringe-worthy entertainment value. Just think of the lineup:

1-Sanders The Idealistic Communist
2-Hillary! The Grifter
3-Biden The Court Jester
4-Gore The Environmental Superhero a/k/a green scam artist who brilliantly ran his own Arab scam. Talk about fools and their money parting.
5-O'Malley The Former Governor of Baltimore, part time bar band musician and Affirmative Action Candidate for The Mentally Disabled
6-St.Warren the faux-populist bankruptcy lawyer and faux-Native American

Then for the second debate have them all tag team take on Donald Trump. Now that I would pay to watch on pay-per view.

Fortunately, engineers have her QuickWit 2.1 expansion ready to go shortly. She will do fine and, as always, look damned near human. I anxiously await the tedious exchange of pointless platitudes that will be Dem debates.

Funny, the GOP has the clown car yet their debates have had actual ideas discussed. Does anybody expect an idea to be discussed amongst the Donks?

...as an aside, if she can't out-think Biden, will the press, finally, realize that her claim as "smartest woman alive" might be hot air?

Look for her to demand more transparency in government soon enough.

When people complain about rampant media unfairness to Republicans Prof. A usually retorts that it's boring and repetitive to complain about that and Republicans should just "get over it" and deal with the fact that they'll be treated unfairly--if Republicans want to run for office they'll just have to overcome the bias that exists and it's whining if they complain.

Why isn't that also true for Hillary Clinton, Professor? Sure this is an example of the Media being unfair to Hillary, but that's just the price she'll have to pay if she wants to run for President. Weirdly I haven't seen complaints about unfairness to Hillary labeled whining--isn't it the same? Apparently it's supposed to be shocking (and a problem) when the Media are a little unfair to Hillary but not at all shocking (nor a problem) when the Media is routinely unfair to Republicans. I sure hope that's not because "we" owe some special deference to Hillary Clinton as, you know, a woman.

HoodlumDoodlum said...

Since I'm not running for President I'm also widely expected to skip the first Democratic debate, btw.

Tune in to see who's debating!!

That would be good TV. I doubt the Candidates would keep mum about being on TV though beforehand.

I took the "unfair to Hillary" statements by Althouse to be sarcastic.

why would he bother? Let Hillary and Sanders beat each other up, everyone get get angsty, and then Biden rides in without having had his every word parsed at debates that don't mean anything yet.

Hillary's impending testimony before Congress this month has the obvious potential to immolate her candidacy, but it could also (if less probably) revitalize it.

She's sure to face hard questions from Gowdy et al. (Although it will also doubtless be another example of just how abysmally bad Congress-critters in general are at trying to cross-examine hostile witnesses. They cannot stop running for re-election long enough to actually pin down and then destroy a smart witness; instead of short, meticulously crafted questions that can't be avoided, they give long, windy, extemporaneous arguments themselves. Biden himself was the Unrivaled King of such bad questioning when he was on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and it was funny to watch smart judicial nominees run circles around him.)

She may also face hard questions from some of her own partisans, though -- whether because they're Sanders supporters or, far more likely, because they're following Obama instructions intended to sabotage Hillary and deliver the nomination on a silver platter to Biden (permitting him, and his Obama-vetted & -approved Veep (e.g., Elizabeth Warren) to "rescue" the Democratic Party from both Hillary and Sanders.

Obama can't ensure that Hillary or any Democrat will win the general election. But he does have the effective ability to destroy her candidacy between now and year-end; and if he's tempted to exercise that ability, or if he has already set upon that course, he can certainly time and calibrate his moves for best dramatic effect.

1. Biden does not want to run. He is being heavily recruited and pushed.

2. He knows he will look like a retard up there with more than one other person to debate. Biden unprepared and unfocused is a disaster waiting to happen.

3. He will either not run or be "low energy" like Bush. The media can only carry him so far. You have to WANT IT to be president in a way most of us will never really understand.

He will be a bad candidate and lose.

If the GOP congressmen could take a few minutes from trying to get sound bites on the news and stroking their ridiculous e-mails, they might actually have a real lawyer do the questioning and have her end up coming out of it terribly.

Otherwise, she could absolutely come out of it looking like a normal person being bullied by morons. I have absolute faith in the GOP's ability to overplay their hand and screw it up.

Biden is only a possible candidate while he avoids speaking idiotically in public, or groping women again in public, or plagiarizing speeches in public, or ....

As soon as he is seen, he is disliked again. Same goes for Warren. Same goes for Hillary, but she doesn't care.

Hillary does not want to be liked. She wants only to win. And she has the media support, the Party support, and the vagina support to win. And nothing else matters, except the amazingly disastrous effects her winning will have on the US.

The only President I can think of who picked a VP who was smarter than he is GWBush. I don't mean W was stupid; he isn't. But Cheney had ages of experience and is very smart. W thought that Cheney could help him govern. He did.

The really bizarre thing about the current situation is that the press treats Trump as a joke and treats Sanders as a surprising but serious candidate. If (and I REALLY hope this doesn't happen) Trump is elected President, he will wake up on November 9 and say, Shit! I better get cracking on this job. No more BS. If Sanders were to be elected (and I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope this doesn't happen), he will wake up on November 9 and say, What am I supposed to do now?

holdfast said...

GWB had the self-confidence and executive experience to be comfortable hiring people smarter than him. It's not an easy thing to do - it's a little unnverving working with a junior colleague who you know is simply much smarter than you are.

Bill Clinton wanted to be the smartest guy in the room, but he is a very smart guy and so still made generally decent cabinet picks (well, given the talent pool he had to work with).

Obama also needs to think himself the smartest guy in the room, but on some level he's also aware that he's not actually that smart, hence a series of talentless hacks and affirmative action hires.

FWIW, it seems to me that if Hillary Clinton; Bernie Sanders, an avowed socialist senator who isn't officially a Democrat; and "I can't keep my hands off women even in public" Lonesome Joe Biden are the best the Democrats have to offer, then as a party there's no "there" there.

If we vote for or elect someone out of sympathy because things are "unfair" we have seriously gone downhill as a body politic. But that is the liberal direction...the way things have gone for along time now:

Oh, poor Bill Clinton...let's vote for him because he had a crappy stepfather and he can relate to single moms. I wonder...how many of the women he abused were single or single moms...how many were married?

Oh, poor Barack Obama...let's vote for him because he's black and because he had no real father. Again, mostly sympathy votes from women.
