Three years? WOW!

Time flies when you're reading Althouse.

Wasn't reading Althouse back then. But congrats, anyway!

Congrats , Meadhouse!
The traditional 3rd anniversary gift is leather. You two have fun and don't forget the "safe word".

Congratulations to you both!

Happy anniversary, Althouse!

ALH, noticed it was the leather year too.

But what to do with all of year two's cotton undies?

Meade and Althouse were married on a mountaintop, but for three trivia points, who was BORN on a mountaintop?

Penny said...

I got this wrong, btw.

fivewheels said...

This remains one of the coolest things ever to happen on the Internet. What else competes, really?

Rabel said...

who was BORN on a mountaintop?

Was it in Tennessee?

DADvocate said...

May you have many more happy years together.

Penny said...

Well, yeah, Rabel, I thought it was in Tennessee. And as it turned out, it was that little fact, which I tried to verify on Wikipedia, that led me to the reason for my own error.

edutcher said...

Many congrats and fivewheels is right.

By sharing your joy, that joy was spread among your readers and multiplied.

That you celebrate your love every day makes the blog one of the nicest places in the blogosphere.

Many more years of happiness to you both.

Can't believe I didn't have to look that up.

Happy Anniversary! I have fond memories of our 3rd anniversary, 36 years ago. May you both get to celebrate many, many more, too.

Congratulations... Many Happy Returns.

Its earliest attributable use was by Lady Newdigate in a letter written in 1789 (and published in Newdigate-Newdegate Cheverels in 1898) [1]
"Many happy returns of ye day to us my Dr Love"
The letter is written in London on the 31st of May 1789 by lady Hester Margaretta Mundy Newdigate to her husband, Sir Roger Newdigate, 5th Baronet, and refers to a wish for their wedding day
.

For better and for worst... Althousian looks up a greeting on the Wikipedia ;)

I haven't scrolled down the posts yet, but I'm hoping you've posted something about the alternate-reality had-Kennedy-lived thought experiment from earlier in the day. I'm curious to see what the two of you came up with.

Holy cow, 3 years? Seems like yesterday. Congratulations!

ps. Same day as Stephen Green? Coincidence?

Penny said...

Ha ha Laughing at myself samanthasmom and rcocean. I mean I was singing the song, with words! And got them all right except for "Davy Crockett".

I was belting out "Daniel Boone"!

And I even know why I did that. lol

When I was TV surfing last night, I came up on a 50's/60's? episode of "Daniel Boone" and was just curious enough to see how a favorite show back then would suit me fifty years later.

Surprise! Suited just fine. Which I suppose tells me that I haven't changed much, except for adding on years. The values I admired then, are the same values I hold dear today.

Just didn't help with the trivia question, dammit. lol

I just learned here that the third anniversary is leather, which must explain the flattened, drying animal corpse in your photostream.

It's touching to think that you are making your gifts from scratch, rather than going all commercial with store bought leather.

So, anyway, back to that episode of Daniel Boone.

Boone is taking provisions to the people who holed up on the other side of the mountain. Later, called Boonesboro. He promised them he would be back with the things they needed to make a new life for themselves.

It seemed that all the wagon train travelers shared that goal.

NOT TRUE!

One guy, who had saved Boone's life twice, and ditto in return...so now they are even, if neither an "even Steven", but you get the set up here.

Well, the other guy got to figuring that if he sold the provisions to someone willing to pay a lot more for them, that he just might get rich. And if he's lucky enough, there would still be enough left over to buy provisions for Boone to take to the settlement.

He kept saying, "Dan, you know me. I'm a gambler".

Almost expected Kenny Roger's song of similar topic to be played in the background, but it was the 50's, so...Have to wait a decade for THAT classic, cowboys and cowgirls.

This is when Boone goes all serious on this man who he thought was his friend.

"I gave my word to these people, that I would bring back the things they need to survive and prosper. By staying where they were, in the outpost, they were risking their lives, and on my word alone.

They're my people. I'm nothing if not good for my word, and now we're a community."

Whew! Powerful moment.

Penny said...

Here's how it ends. Gambler wouldn't take "no" for an answer, and Boone was going to be good on his word.

BANG!

Seemed harsh at the time, but show's only a half hour, so, hey.

Mr. Meade & Mrs. Althouse;

Congratulations! I've often thought 'what a looker' when I see pics of Ann, and even better, a good conservative & right-thinking law prof at UW MADISON???? You two are a fascinating pair and one of my first stops every day when gathering news. Mazaltov. Here's to two of the fairest and most well-thought-out people I have had the pleasure of encountering in one form or another. Cheers!

I was just razzing them. Congrats. You two look great together.

I was probably thinking of myself, and when the day cums when I can get it up. Then what? Death. Dear God, I can't even think about that-so depressing. I saw an old queen mesmerized by the cafe clerk this morning and thought that's my future. Always looking never touching.

tits.

Davy Crockett was actually born in a cabin beside a creek, in a valley, not on a mountain top. The cabin still stands. It's in a state park.

I think it is cool that when Glenn says "Happy anniversary to Ann and Meade", everybody knows who he is talking about!

One of the wonderful things about the blog community.

The Crack Emcee said...

I want to see the yearly announcements from each of your "first" marriages and know what they mean or meant to you. When you bailed on them, did you send out announcements saying, "Ha-ha - fooled you!" or did you slink into the dark, hoping time will do wonders for the memory? Or your character?

Don't answer, I know. You're so brave.

Anyway, congratulations - the charade continues - happily, for what that's worth. And just as getting divorced increases the likelihood those around you would do so as well (another unannounced accomplishment) you two representatives of the marriage-can-be-what-you-want meme will be the first couple I contact once your example makes me consider that move for myself - which will happen, as I promised, ONLY after the lawnmower starts by having my dick in her tank and not a moment sooner.

Giving your word has to mean something around here.

Wait, sorry - I forgot who I'm talking to - no it doesn't.

Your word - even when spoken on a mountaintop - can mean whatever frickin' thing you want.

Because it's all about you and always will be, Oh Great Baby Boomers, until the day you die.

Then things can get back to normal around here,...

Meade said...

"Oh Great Baby Boomers"

Don't kid yourself. We're not that great.

Nichevo said...

Cracky, you are getting to be fucked up. Yeah, they're each divorced and now married to each other. Triumph of hope over experience.

What do you want them to do? Die? Scourge themselves daily? Get divorced? Just be miserable the rest of their lives knowing they haven't lived up to your standards? Exactly what can they do to please you, satisfy you, shut you up?

Nothing, right? So might as well ignore you.

BTW are you divorced from the murderess, or still hitched?
