Recall Scott Walker — the rally at the Wisconsin Capitol today.

Recorded by Meade, edited by me.

IN THE COMMENTS: Curious George says:
Perhaps Meadehouse didn't feel we could handle it, but here is video of the Recall Flash Mob.

While painful to watch for it's lameness, I think it's important, because this is actually representative of the quality of product that public unions produce.
You know, it may be lame, but it's also pretty charming. Think about the anger, confusion, and the incipient violence you've seen in various Occupy [Your City] situations. After a year of frustration, these people are still smiling and dancing.

Seen one rally, seen 'em all.

Not much to comment on.

Idiots in motion.

I tried watching twice, but will need to ask: what was the proportion of professionally printed signs to handmade signs?

One suggestion to account for the lack of job growth in Wisconsin might be the political uncertainty. Earlier they were recalling sitting Senators guilty of being Republicans. Now the Governor, Lt. Governor and three more Republican Senators are threatened with recalls. The states with the strongest public sector unions have great financial difficulties. All the demonstrations cost tax dollars. The business climate in Wisconsin right now must be awful. Open a business, and you can have a union thug suggest you have a nice business there, don't you want to support the union? The unions and their supporters seem intent on making things worse.

How is the petition coming? Have they broken 100K yet?

Is it beyond these folks that stuff like this is just going to turn out the Walker vote, that people all over the state are sick of this shit (i.e., these SEIU types)? All I can say is, go ahead ans step right in it.

Carol_Herman said...

I don't even see the first 9000.

And, you'd need signatures from 9000 people a day. To achieve "recall."

Maybe, the trouble is that they can't just distribute empty tents. Then, which was the "occupy" trick ... have maybe 5% of the tents filled with sleeping people? (Glenn Reynolds, today, exposed the "trick." With a link to a guy who has a TV show in Toronto.) How did the station know the tents were empty? They used infrared cameras. That at night, seek out heat.

By the way. Is this enough of a crowd that's good for business in downtown Madison? Does the pizza place get customers? Is it too cold for a Farmer's Market?

Did the band keep marching until they reached a football field?

Did anyone ever find the tape from 1979, where a player flopped over Joe Paterno and broke his leg?

Did the tape of Joe Paterno getting his leg broke in Madison just disappear?

When will the real stories heat up?

Milwaukee: I tried watching twice, but will need to ask: what was the proportion of professionally printed signs to handmade signs?

I don't know how much that's worth. I've been at rallies where they have a little factory making up handmade signs all saying the same sort of thing, then handing them out to people.

Rather lackluster, reminiscent of the line about the French in 1940, "Instead of, 'On to Berlin', it was, 'Let's get it over with'".

I had to laugh at the beginning of the march when people started walking in the other direction when the resident idiots started blowing those stupid horns.

PS Best irony: The moron singing the line, "If you're lookin' fer a job, think agin, unless you're next to a Tea Party Republican".

Quite a comment on the union slugs, unintended as it was.

Im still waiting for a "Its All About The Kids" sign.

After all, schools were supposed to rot away like corpses and education was going to go into the tank in this state if Act 10 passed.

The fact that over 200 school districts in this state held firm or lowered property taxes this year is a transgression that nobody should have to live with.

Wow, I spent my day volunteering at a non-profit/charitable organization. Too bad citizens of Madwackistan didn't think of doing something productive like that.

Chuck: Since it is all about them, why would they do something for others? Other than for a photo-op? My experience with the teachers union was that they were about taking care of union teachers. Very consistently, when teacher unions are given a choice between cutting pay and cutting staff, they choose cutting staff.

Teacher certification is more about a barrier to entry. Teach For America teachers do as well as traditionally certified teachers. School administrators, on the local level, and in state departments of education, are former teachers and are overwhelmingly sympathetic to the teachers unions. After all, the administrators must depend on teacher goodwill.

Carnifex said...

My niece is a teacher, My aunt is a teacher, and my uncle is a teacher. The stories they tell are horrifying. A lot of the teachers down here resent the B.S. the unions make them go through. But its a closed shop. You wanna work, you gotta follow their rules. I was never a good follower so I ain't a teacher. In fact the nuns had several words to describe me, but that's not germaine.

Anyway, my relatives have to jump through hoops to teach. It sucks. It's the NEA, and the Governments fault.

Unions are dying but for theior forced enrollments. Look at what's going on with the home care givers in Mi.

Bring it ya' union pansy asses!

Someone came to my door for signatures yesterday, but I was in the basement doing laundry and missed the chance to sign.

Same idiots. Same tired slogans.

Look for these morons it's now part of their identity. It's what they are. It's what they do. We have a few of them here on the blog.

And when you ask the "why?" it's as weak and confused as shit like "Walker didn't campaign on this" to "my health and life are in jeopardy because I don't get guaranteed regularly scheduled lunch and breaks."

Look, there is a reason ole square head Jim Doyle didn't run for a third term as guv. He finally had to actually deal with the relity he created.

After raiding the tobacco settlement, transportation fund, raising taxes by $2 billion, and using the porkulus money to "balance" the budget, instead of using fiscal restraint, he had the same $3.6 billion shortfall that Walker had to deal with. With no more tricks left, he had no answers, so he just left.

Democrats and Unions, societal vampires, sucking the lifeblood out of cities.

Look at all the cities they've killed, the states going bankrupt. Their repeated failures mount: Detroit, St. Louis, Philadelphia. Michigan, Ohio, California.

Now they want to kill Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Massachusetts.

Obama aims to do this nationally. I'm resigned to the fact that they will succeed.

Now all those post-apocalyptic movies of the last 40 years make a lot more sense. I applied for concealed carry last week after an elderly man was pistol-whipped and robbed by a Somali man coming out of a downtown restaurant.

Thanks Garage, and all your vampire friends.

As I have said before, while there some national issues lurking in the penumbras and emmenations, this is fundamentally a Wisconsin issue best left for Wisconsonites to deal with.

Joe Schmoe said...

No, he doesn't, Garage. The fact that the Dems don't even have a candidate yet means this is simply all a delaying tactic. Hold off Walker now, tie him up in electioneering while he's got a plurality in Congress, and hopefully the Dems can scare enough people in 2012 to flip the state legislature. Way to go.

Wisconsin is dead last in the Midwest in economic growth, even after crushing public unions, and implenting all these wonderful new ALEC/Americans for Prosperity tools. We've stated clearly now to everyone that WE'RE OPEN for BUSINESS! But we're losing jobs, businesses are leaving instead of coming.

I wonder what's going on?

KCFleming said...

Uncertainty, garage.

It's what stops investment and kills growth.

And it's what you and the Unions have done to WI, the same as Pelosi and Obama have done nationally.

Obama asked the same question, and similarly doesn't know it's his own goddamned fault.

Roger J. said...

Agree whole heartedly with Pogo--its all about uncertainty--I assume uncertainty in WI but clearly at the national level--several CEOs of national organizations have commented on it.

No competent CEO it seems to me can make significant decisions in this current economic climate when they dont know what the rules and regulations are--they will sit on capital until they have a clearer indication.

garage mahal said...

Ah, the Uncertainty Fairy. This is all Obama's fault again I take it? That wouldn't explain why Wisconsin is lagging behind our neighbors though in job growth.

Roger J. said...

garage: at the national level it is precisely the administration's fault--Wisconsin? have no idea--that is Wisconsin's issue.

Curious George said...

"But we're losing jobs, businesses are leaving instead of coming.

I wonder what's going on?"

Well, let's start with which "businesses are leaving" garage.

AllenS said...

Wisconsin has Democratic politicians fleeing the state instead of working out the details of balancing the budget. Then we had to go through recalls, and now there is a recall against the Governor. Seriously, garage, does this look like a state that anyone would want to invest in?

Joe Schmoe said...

Garage, unemployment in Michigan is 11.1% versus 7+% in Wisconsin. Illinois is 10%. Ohio is 9%. How is Wisconsin the worst in the Midwest?

Please folks, don't defend against Garage's claims when they are false.

KCFleming said...

AllenS,
Democrats seriously believe nothing they do will possibly hamper business growth (i.e. tax collection devices).

They don't understand investment so don't understand uncertainty.

GMay said...

garage seems to have just as much a clue about that concept as he does basic finance.

wv: flear - 1) the act of fleeing the state in fear of the democratic process

2) the fear of flea infestation at an OWS protest

Roger J. said...

At the national level, the keystone pipeline thing seems to me to highlight the issue of uncertainty--I am sure there are many investors who would see it as a major money maker on any number of levels--regretably, the administration kicked this can down the road until after the next election.

Lots of shovel ready jobs, refinery jobs etc, but what corporation would sink investor funds in a project the EPA/President would sink in the future?

garage as usual you are full of shit.

Unemployment has gone up in every Midwest state since Walker became governor. Every one. You can go hereand click on the states on the left and overlay them on the graph to compare.

And you won't like the results. Most states are trending down over the last few months. The state that continues to trend up is Illinois. You know, the state that went the route you and your fucktard friends want to go. They implemented higher taxation. And they are broke. Now the Democratic Governor and the Democratic Mayor of Chicago are being fought on every reform by the public unions. IL and Chicago are fucked. They are in a death spiral. And you want that for WI?

Fuck you.

garage mahal said...

Fuck you.

Misdirected anger. You should be asking Walker where the jobs he promised are. Last month 9300 private sector jobs lost [9700 overall]. And 20,700 lost jobs overall the past two months. Everything he wanted already put into place, and yet, just the opposite of what he said is happening.

Joe Schmoe said...

Hey look at me! I cherry pick data like Garage Mahal. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, dude.

Would you rather have the economy of MI, IL, or OH over WI? If so, why?

Given the large union presences in those states, how would increasing union presence and influence make the WI economy better? Your neighbors offer cautionary tales that these tactics bust economies, not build them.

Would you really rather have 11% unemployment than 7.8% unemployment? Can you claim that Walker's reforms increased unemployment? Using your burden of proof, I say his reforms kept it from being worse.

Milwaukee said...

Garage: Governor Walker has stated "We've stated clearly now to everyone that WE'RE OPEN for BUSINESS!", as you claim Wisconsin has. But the constant stream of recalls is saying "We're open, but we're having some personnel issues, so just wait a bit."

My understanding is that businesses prefer a calm regulatory climate. With the turmoil, I'm surprised anybody would want to do business in Wisconsin. The turmoil is from the socialist-progressive-leftist-Democrats. I know of one city in financial straits which promises lifetime health insurance for their police and fire retirees. Not until you're 65, but life time. No wonder municipalities are struggling.

I know another school district where in the Spring of 2009 the union was very active in electing a favorable school board. Earlier this year the board signed 3-year extensions with all their unions. Now they are having financial trouble. Of course, this district has been getting the majority of their operating funds from the state for years out of mind. Think those union contracts are contributing to their financial problems? No doubt.

Milwaukee said...

Garage: "You should be asking Walker where the jobs he promised are. "

I'm sure Governor Walker won't shirk his responsibilities, unlike his predecessor* and the irresponsible Democratic Senators. I'm equally sure that when Governor Walker promised jobs, he didn't anticipate businesses being told "Support our business or else!" by union thugs. He didn't anticipate the maelstrom caused by the Flea-Baggers, the protests in Madison and the recalls. Why do liberal-progressive-socialist-Democrats hate the state so much?

Why do the teachers hate Black kids so much? Wisconsin ranks among the worse states for the achievement gap between White and Black students.

As the CEO of Google stated on CBS morning news, the Republican mantra of taxes, and regulations as the reasons for no new jobs is , and I quote, " a lie." I am not sure Walker is entirely responsible for the job loses and closing of Johnson Controls in Hudson, or Famous Footwear in Sun Prairie -- it has to do with demand etc. but it does not look like Walker's boasting about creating jobs is merited.

michaele said...

The flash mob was rather dear...all the rhythm-less white people doing their best.

Carnifex said...

God, you lib-tards are stupid. You bitch about Walker not creating jobs. How long does it take to create a factory for the job to be in? how long does it take to increase demand for a product enough to warrant a new factory? Why would a corporation that decided on building a factory build it where Lib-tards keep trying to over throw the duly elected government when they could build it in more stable states?

I'll make it simple. Lib-tards raise taxes. People have less money to spend on comforts, and necessities. Demand goes down. Factories are forced to lay off workers to stay profitable. Laid off employees apply for unemployment compensation. The debt rises. Lib-tards raise taxes to cover more people on unemployment. Start over again.

As Mrs. Thatcher said,"The problem with socialism is that eventually, you run out of other peoples money"

Again for lib-tards the government does not create value. they print the pieces of paper that represent units of "work". If the government prints more pieces of paper, the value of each piece of paper lessens.

The government takes away Pauls' pieces of paper to give to Peter. Paul worked for that paper. he has invested value in it. Peter, who is given the paper, has not worked for it. The paper has less value for him.

I'm sorry, if you're an adult and you still don't understand basic economics you've been severely shortchanged in your education, and I can't do it with a few paragraphs.

Suffice to say, lib-tards are idiots.

Milwaukee said...

Carnifex: I'm glad to see that even in your obvious anger you are still generous in your opinion of the leftist-socialist-progressive-Democrats: "Carnifex said : Suffice to say, lib-tards are idiots. "

p.s. Whenever I used the expression "socialist-progressive-leftist-Democrats" on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel comment pages, it has been deleted. Hmmmmm. Think they might be socialist-progressive-leftist-Democrats?

Being present in Madison that day in support of our Governor, I saw firsthand the behavior of these people. Shouting in people's faces, one threw hot coffee in the face of a Governor supporter, he was taken away. They were intimidated by 100 or so people that showed up to show that we are in support of Wisconsin moving forward.

Sorry, I don't think there is anything charming about it. In the end, it's about people that are both selfish and/or self absorbed.

I mean you could say that Occupy [Your City]was charming. I mean think about the Third Reich, they killed 8 million Jew.

Milwaukee said...

George: Old, over-weight women like to dance whenever music plays. Makes them feel sexy. Not so much for the rest of us.

The Hitler numbers are around 11-12 millions systematically killed in death camps (as opposed to directly or indirectly in wars). Over 6 million of those were Jews. The rest were those deemed unworthy, such as practicing Christians, especially the clergy, and in particular Catholic priests and nuns, and other "undesirables": people with physical disabilities such as the blind and handicapped, as well as criminals, homosexuals, and prostitutes. In short, those deemed "unworthy". While the world remembers the Jews who were murdered, they seem to forget the others.

That prostitutes were singled out seems odd, given the general moral depravity of the Third Reich. In France after WWI there were 5 adult women for every 2 adult men. France and Germany were worried about repopulating their country. I don't know what the French did, but the Germans encouraged pre-marital sex among their teenagers: gotta start popping out some babies.

Considering what Hitler did to the Jews, Feingold honoring Hitler by quoting him seems unusual. But then Feingold appears to be a secular Jew, and not too involved in his faith. How else could a Jew support the annihilation of so many babies in this country through abortion?
