All I need is a big bottle of syrup...

... can sit down to Madison's biggest sno-cone.

I'll have caramel!

..and here comes round 2 later today and tonight. My kids are psyched for no school tomorrow.

Should be great skiing -- the snow is pure fluff.

It looks more like a flan.

And that is why I moved to North carolina!

Great for shoveling, too (relatively speaking)

Here on Long Island we're in the process of being iced in, fluffy snow would be much more preferable.

The river birches in my yard are already showing the strain and this storm didn't even get started here yet. (ugh)

Here in Kansas ...

"We're off to see the Blizzard, the wonderful Blizzard in Oz."

And having spent five years in NW Arkansas, I'm laughing my arse off imagining with 30 inches of snow will be like in a region with one plow and two sand trucks ... for fifteen counties!

Their attitude has always been "Whale the good Lawrd brought it heyuhr. Ah reckun we kin white fer Him to tike it uh-why."

I just finished plowing my driveway. 10ยบ, not much wind and beautiful clear skies. Not bad.

Looks like a big old marshmallow to me. All you need is a propane torch to toast it, a couple pounds of chocolate, and two graham crackers the size of ceiling tiles.

"I'll have caramel!"

"How many outs Ann?"

"CARAMEL! I'm gonna get caramel, or vanilla. They're both... favorites, so either one is good, but if they have both, I'll get caramel, because caramel is a little more favorite. But if they don't have caramel it's like alright its fine, cause vanilla's favorite anyway. It's like another favorite, but not as much. Not as much favorite. But they're both good. They're both good."

It's -9 for a high today here! But no snow. So no sno-cones. I do love fanciful snowscapes.

Try their blood orange...it's refreshingly tangy with a touch of bitter...makes a great flavored soda...with or without a splash of Campari.

I'm also wearing my poofy black coat. It's functional for the extreme cold, and it's a great look for black history month.

So what happens when the snow is higher than the roof? Stay inside and live Blog the snow plows. Thank God the Super Bowl is not in Minnesota's cloth covered stadium.

There are some advantages to living in Crazyville...the Bay Area usually has a week or ten days of false spring in early Feb...it's a fabulous 72 degrees as I type from the front deck.

Althouse would recoil in horror as pasty-white legs clad in shorts abound.

Oh to be sure, cold and wet weather will return, usually with a vengeance...but for now the cats and I are enjoying the sunshine and the scent of nearby almond blossoms.

Bart Hall, good you got out of that awful state. In fact, NO ONE should buy any real estate there. Ever.

(Counting the days until I can turn big yankee dollars into plenty of Arkansas land.)

Just don't eat the yellow snow.

Weather says more ice tonight so I stockpiled some heat for the power outage.

The house is now at 70F instead of the usual 55F.

You don't need syrup - you need sweetened condensed milk. Fill a big bowl with fresh snow, pour the sweetened condensed milk over the top and stir. It will freeze and you will have the best tasting snow cream - a Southern Specialty! Yes, you can add flavors. As a transplanted Yankee, I wasn't expecting much -- but I was proven wrong.

Note: it only works with fresh snow - old snow tastes stale.
