Never say never.

Not being familiar with the Great White North, how many days have to go by before "cabin fever" breaks out? Or you can put duck tape on and snowshoe your way around Madison carrying signs that protest endangered Polar Bears.

Of course you two crazy newlyweds are going to go out cross-country skiing, instead of taking advantage of this chance to ditch finals so you can stay home and keep each other warm.

S-u-u-re you are.

That's what happened when The Blonde and I got stuck in Elkhart IN for 3 days during the blizzard of '99. We spent all our time outside partaking of the winter sports instead of trying to raise the temperature of the room inside.

PS Your chancellor is named Biddy?

Oy!!!

Delayed class tomorrow. I'm still mad about no school today. What's up with local government these days?

I'll be working from home because of it, but the husband is going in. The students still need to eat...

I am glad Chancellor "Biddy" made the decision early. It shows decisiveness. She put safety before the administrative headaches the cancellation will produce. Will it be a holiday, a vacation day, or a furlough day?

Speaking of safety: soon Bascom Hill will be filled with happy students riding cafeteria trays.

This is Althouse's chance to ski to work!

I hope the State bacterium is covered up in this December to Remember. And what about the two newest trees? Are they already dormant or covered up?

It's good that the students with exams are spared the anxiety of worrying overnight about how to get in and whether they need to go in at all. Sleep well, everybody.

You have a good heart, Mum, unlike some I recall.

I once had a teacher for First Form Social Studies who was so nasty, you could tell your grade on a test by his expression. The lower the grade, the wider the smile.

I'd call you folks wimps but back when I lived in Maryland the local school district closed the schools based on the threat of a snowfall that never even materialized. The kids had a snow day when it never snowed a single flake.

We flooded here overnight. Some of my students emailed to ask if I'd postpone their exam and I said no, but I'd do a makeup at 7:30 Thursday morning.

They all made it today.

Pity the professor who decided to give his final on the last Wednesday of classes.

I wonder what would have happened if this storm had happened next week, during finals week.

I blame global warming.

Michael...Don't you understand that this is only weather. Global Warming is not about hot weather and cold weather. It is about impure Fossil Carbon usage by extra people that is hateful, unless a Danegeld is paid.

@MadisonMan, finals are underway at the law school.

I thought Biddy Martin got fired after the fight in the strip club with the marshmallow salesman?

They're thinking like the kids. Which is to say, not so much. But it feels good, which must count for something. Right?

According to the article, Jason, only if she gets permission from her supervisor.

That's pretty funny actually.

Down here is SWVA there are a lot of snow pussies. One good reason for this is that almost all snow removal is "solar powered." (I got yer green jobs right here.) Others include lots of hills and the fact that most precip is "wintery mix." Last night we stayed just above freezing and got rain - so I'm typing this instead of having snowday fun with my preschool teacher wife.

I checked the 830wcco website, and I see the schools around here (western WI) are closed. Luckily, I bought a 24 pack of beer yesterday, so, I don't have to go anywhere for a while.

How did it feel to be officially declared to be "non-essential"?

In her next life, the professor should become a stationary engineer.
