Senator Nelson's abortion amendment fails, 54-45.

"To wrap up debate and move to a final vote, the majority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, will need the unanimous backing of all 60 members of his caucus, including Mr. Nelson. Or he will need to win over enough Republicans to make up for any defections."

60 democrats are going to screw us over. How sad.

So I guess the question is just how serious Nelson was about his threat to filibuster.

Or more precisely how much "aid" Nebraska requires.

Thank God, there is not enough abortions in this country.

More abortions now...please.

do you all know where the most abortions are in the U.S per capita? In the Southern Red States, natch. Those states also get most federal funding of any states. Whassup with that?

Reid can always get the Maine sisters if he's willing to dole out the pork.

Yep ... I get Nelson's price just went over a $1 billion bribe for his vote.

(The bribe paid for in some form of aid or another for political crony's in his state mind you ... so his cut can be hidden away in campaign donations that he converts to personal cash in retirement dontcha' know.)

The fix is in on "reform".

Yep, Dems want to keep a cap on the black population. They've seen to that for sure.

The South did win the war.

Titus,

Where do you get your statistics, because I think your completely wrong on the abortion per capita claim. The stats I've seen show that per capita abortions are highest in NY, NJ, CA, a few other northeastern states, IL and FL. Pretty much what you'd expect (except that Rhode Island is surprisingly high).

Also, I suspect that the federal funding stats are skewed by military spending, given that the South has a disproportionate share of military installations.

You seem out of whack. Maybe you need to get rid of a loaf or two.

I blame Thad Cochran from Mississippi. He pretends to be all conservative but he is really a pig porky worky.

We'll see what happens now. A lot of Senators have been feeling the hot breath of angry constituencies on their necks, now we'll know if they're willing to toss their cushy jobs.

Someone noted that the Republicans could win in landslides if they promised to repeal this and the other Obamanations.

To paraphrase a great American philosopher, "Repeal. I like the sound of the word.".

The reason Democrats want no controls on abortion is that black babies are the ones most often aborted (relative to their numbers in the population). And Democrats hate black people. They work overtime to keep them down and kill as many as possible.

It's pure grade A racism.

More abortions = fewer black people around.

Shhhhhhhhhhhh. Shush your mouth.

They're falling right into the trap and here you go letting the cat out of the bag.

I think there is so much silver being doled out in Washington that concern for re-election is really not a brake on legislators anymore. Most of them would be happy to not have to go back to their states and/or districts.

A total of 237 of them are millionaires anyway.

This is how the rich keep the rest of us poor, folks. They pass laws requiring us to buy insurance, then set up insurance businesses.

Not since the Egyptions enslaved the Israelites has there been a better method of enslaving a people.

@Florida:

Margaret Sanger, the Patron Saint of Planned Parenthood, championed abortion as a eugenic method for suppressing the growth of the African American population.

The government should only allow registered Democrats to have abortions. It's their signature issue, after all; so they deserve to have as many abortions as they want as frequently as possible.

Humperdink said...

Titus.....I presume you are serious in desiring more abortions or more precisely "more abortions please".

May I suggest you step up and volunteer to abort yourself. After all, your mother was kind to skip that procedure.

Anytime you want to drive the pro-abortion crowd absolutely insane, raise the fact that Maggie Sanger's pen pal and BFF was everybody's favorite population control expert, Heinrich Himmler.

They corresponded frequently and saw eye to eye on the necessity for keeping the lower races down.

What I'd like to know is how many became millionaires after they got elected.

If you don't like the current situation, blame yourself and blame your leaders.

Your leaders just encouraged you to go to townhalls and throw tantrums, or go wave loopy signs on street corners. And, some of you did that, while most everyone else did nothing.

Meanwhile, if your leaders had promoted this plan they could have blocked or had an impact on UHC at the same time as raising the level of debate in the U.S. and undercutting the MSM. Compare that plan to what (if anything) your leaders suggested you do about UHC, then find more competent, less corrupt leaders.

Geez, Ben... if you didn't like the bill, you could have just voted against it.

In this NY Times Magazine article, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg let's the cat out of the bag by explaining that Roe v. Wade was decided in order to keep the black population down:

"Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of. So that Roe was going to be then set up for Medicaid funding for abortion."

Don't want too many black folk walking the streets, after all.

Democrats are plain old everyday racists, that's all. To such a degree that when they feel they're talking with their "friends" in the media they openly discuss their little genocide secret.

If you donate to Democrats or vote for them then you're just enabling the genocide to continue. You are part of their death machine.

Most Democrats, especially those in the South, see that as a feature, not a bug. Robert Byrd left the KKK because he found a much larger party that had the power to execute on his ideas.

He's been their Grand Dragon for 30 years now.

Here's what I don't understand:

If the entire concept of the present "health reform" bill is anathema to Republicans' principles and against their philosophical/political grain such that they are essentially sworn to oppose it in its present form, why are they voting on these amendments that are basically tinkering around the edges?

I mean, even if they struck abortion funding from the bill, aren't most/all of the Republicans on record as saying they'll vote against it anyway? If so, why not just have the Democrats lard the bill with all manner of abominations and make it that much easier to caricature the bill and its supporters come election time next year?

There's some serious strategery issues here that Mr. "Boner" and his team appear to be missing up on the hill, or (more likely) I'm missing something. Anybody? Bueller?

veni vidi vici,

What you're missing is that Republicans can't keep this monstrosity from being passed.

What they can do is offer amendments that highlight provisions that most Americans don't like, and force Dems to defend those provisions.

The goal is to force Dems in conservative areas to either vote their constituents' wishes and torpedo the whole thing, or vote their party line and pack their bags.
