The Moot Court/Op-Ed Café.

I was going to put up a photograph of the snow — yes, we have a spring snow — but, after taking the trouble to open and lean out of my 3rd-floor window, the camera battery gave out. That prompted me to substitute this orchid from a few weeks back to set up today's café, where you can talk about what you want while I — after frittering away Friday and Saturday — apply myself to 2 tasks that must be done today: writing an op-ed with a Monday deadline and prepping for and judging the final round of the Evans Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition at Wisconsin Supreme Court Hearing Room:

And let that orchid symbolize what you — and I mean you — know it symbolizes.

Let me second rh's admonition and remind everyone everywhere to observe safe physical limits of leaning out second-story bedroom windows.

Um, Meade, your concern is very touching. But there is a difference between the safe physical limits of leaning out second story windows and the safe physical limits of leaning out third story windows.

Paying attention to little details like that makes relationships run much smoother. :)

Ack. My darling wife has rotated all furniture in our bedroom 180 degrees while I was outside clearing the driveway.

I know, I just know, that some night this week I an going to get lost trying to find the bathroom in the dark in the middle of the night.

Michael H- I feel your pain.

My wife rearranged the bedroom while I was at work once. On second shift.

I got home at 3:00 am and went into the bedroom, keeping all of the lights off so I don't wake anybody up, and when I went to sit down on the edge of the bed, the bed was gone. I was stretched our full length on the floor, and landed with a crash that woke the whole house.

That weekend we got a waterbed so I would never face that situation again.

Not exactly moot court, but do you see any benefit of emphasizing to students this style of debate?

Rather, it's practicing to be in a FedEx commercial or an auction, not a reasoned debate!

I'm reminded of how disenchanted I was upon my arrival at college when I discovered how detatched and insular the academic "forensics community" can be.

David said...

Moot court is not a debate. It's an argument. The present style in formal debate is to marshal as many arguments as you can in the limited time available. Effective legal argument involves advancing your best points in the most persuasive way in the limited time available. Quality not quantity. Also debaters are not faced with probing judges who test your thesis and require you to move away from the prepared statement.

Moot court was one of the better teaching tools when I was in law school. Hope that's still the case.

Speaking about debates, why is it that all these lawyers online only whine instead of actually coming up with an effective plan to do something?

For instance, for over two years I've been trying to get people to go to appearances by politicians and engage them in debate about policy by asking them real questions. Video of that can then be uploaded to Youtube. (See how you can get involved here).

Instead of pushing something like that, all these online lawyers run around like headless chickens. If they encourage people to do anything at all it's worthless, time-wasting things like the tea parties. What's up with that?

Obama should force Hillary to stay home and hold State tea parties and such; things she is good at.

He should appoint Joe Biden and Barney Frank as travelling envoys. Both of them are idiots, both of them are mentally and intellectually deficient, and both of them say the most ridiculous things and the most inappropriate times.

Both are also thoroughly corrupt, so they would get along well with Third World Dictators. Since we and the world expect them to say and do stupid embarrassing things, it would be no surprise to anyone.

They would be the diplomatic version of Martin and Lewis or Abbot and Costello.

WAUPUN, Wis. - The principal at Waupun High School has had the school's fight song rewritten because he feared its use of the word "fellow" could be construed as sexist.

Principal Jeff Finstad says most people didn't know the lyrics to the song, so students wanted to paint them on the gymnasium wall.

That's when he read the words, which included the line, "Fight fellows, fight, fight, fight."

He told students he wouldn't allow those words on the wall.

What if Obama let the AIG bonuses sail thru to create the political conditions necessary for this power grab that Geithner is now selling.

If I remember correctly Geithner was suppose to have a plan when he first appeared b4 congress (about a month ago) but he held it back.

Why did he held it back? Could it possibly have been held to coincide with the bonus backlash they knew it was coming?

Remember how Bill Clinton sandbagged Newt with the government shutdown? Bill went to the unions and got their ok to shut down the government all the while blamed Newt for the shut down.

When the bailout bill was written it was the white house that took out the bonus limitations on AIG, so that now Obama would be able to demonize them and have congress give him all kinds of new powers.

Everything has worked according to plan - except for that last part. But lets also remember the government has never said no to growth.

Yes, Trooper I have noticed that. This convinces me dictatorship provides purpose for living.

It's sort of like the elderly gardener that lives beyond their capability to keep up with all the weeding, watering, insect control, harvesting. And yet each season brings new challenges and demands, preparation for the next season. It's this looking forward to the next season that keeps them going along with the sense of their own being indispensable.

At risk of igniting another flame war, and I could be wrong, but I've noticed also Democratic ex-presidents tend to resist going off quietly into retirement. Their apparent need to remain involved and in the spotlight borders on narcissim, in my opinion.

But isn't "fellow" unisex as far as, say, doctoral fellows go? As I woman, I wouldn't turn down a fellowship.

I just heard there's now a video of Biden's 27-year-old daughter snorting coke.

A few years ago Biden’s tramp daughter was in Chicago. She had been out bar hopping with friends. They showed up at a popular club, drunk out of their minds. When they were refused entry Biden’s tramp pulled the usual “do you know who I am” shit. A fight broke out with the bouncers. The cops showed up. Biden’s tramp then physically fought with the police; a big mistake in Chicago. She was arrested and charged; they threw the book at her. After talks of law suits and other nonsense, the whole thing disappeared. Poof. Gone. Biden called Daley. Daley called the prosecutor and the judge and it all went away.

Now if this tramp had been some Black young person or just a plain nobody, with no heavy connections she would be getting out of prison about now.

Hey, let's leave Biden's daughter alone.

Biden’s tramp has a history of criminal behavior. She is fair game. Putting your hands on a police officer in Illinois is a felony. She is lucky it was not me. She would have wound up in a hospital and I would have blasted her all over the Chicago papers.

She beat it because of daddy’s political influence, just like the criminal Kennedy family.

As to Palin, babies are innocents. Biden's tramp was and is a drunken whore adult. She thinks she can do whatever she wants and daddy will get her out of it or buy her out of it. Typical eltist Democrap.

Oh, and I suppose that the term pimping in relation to how the Clintons used their daughter during the campaign was wrong too.
