Fireworks, again... and I don't know why.

Living here, it's a regular thing to hear fireworks and to go out on the terrace and watch....

DSC07271.JPG

I have no idea what the occasion is. Is it for the 3 large ships that ease by?

DSC07289.JPG

UPDATE: It was the ships:
Three of the world's best-known ocean liners steamed out of New York harbour together late today, sailing out of the same port for the first and only time in their history.

The Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth 2 and newly launched Queen Victoria slipped past the Statue of Liberty together under the cover of darkness as fireworks burst overhead, offering maritime history fans a unique opportunity.
Since the QE2 is off on its last world cruise and, in November, will become a floating hotel parked in Dubai, this was the only time the three ships would ever meet.
Launched by her namesake in 1967, the QE2 has travelled 5.5 million nautical miles - the equivalent of travelling to the moon and back 13 times - undertaken 25 world cruises and crossed the Atlantic more than 800 times.

Take another look at your contract for the visiting professor job. I think you might have overlooked a line in the "Benefits and Perks" section.

"Fireworks, again... ..."?

Must ***everything*** conspire to be a comment on this election cycle? Damn it!

Or, er, maybe this is just me, just another exhibit "x" in the trial that is Us?

I love fireworks. In Chicago, there are several opportunities to see them. Our Mayor is like the old Roman emperors and believes in bread and circuses. We have fireworks on a regular basis.

But, according to the Goran, they contribute to global warming and should be banned; too much of a carbon imprint. If the Goran is accepted as a true religion, due to a jihad, we will not have the pleasure of seeing fireworks again.

Oh you don't know what you got...

I saw three ships come sailing in
On Christmas day, on Christmas day;
I saw three ships come sailing in
On Christmas day in the morning.

And what was in those ships all three,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day?
And what was in those ships all three,
On Christmas day in the morning?

Our Savior Christ and His lady,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day;
Our Savior Christ and His lady,
On Christmas day in the morning.

Pray whither sailed those ships all three,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day?
Pray whither sailed those ships all three,
On Christmas day in the morning?

O they sailed into Bethlehem,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day,
O they sailed into Bethlehem,
On Christmas day in the morning.

And all the bells on Earth shall ring,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day;
And all the bells on Earth shall ring,
On Christmas day in the morning.

And all the angels in Heav’n shall sing,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day;
And all the angels in Heav’n shall sing,
On Christmas day in the morning.

And all the souls on Earth shall sing,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day;
And all the souls on Earth shall sing,
On Christmas day in the morning.

Then let us all rejoice amain,
On Christmas day, on Christmas day;
Then let us rejoice amain,
On Christmas day in the morning.

the sunday after christmas as the 31st. the second sunday as the 7th. yesterday was the 13th...that sunday is the end of the christmas season and the start of epiphany.

fireworks were on that sunday..the transition sunday when one season ends and another begins.

keep christmas in your heart longer and you won't come off as such a pill.

The Epiphany is the 6th of January, yes?

reader_iam said...

The Ephiphany is Jan. 6. Since that fell on a Sunday this year, yesterday, Jan. 13, was Epiphany I (Sunday).

Well, at least, that's how the liturgical calendar works in the Episcopal/Anglican church.

hdlouse,
A pill. Really, you do love the scintillating little personal insulting quips. Point- your song said Christmas Day, not season. That was three weeks ago.

Evidently you missed my comments a few posts back to your nasty habit of personal insults and attacks on people. I am reprinting it here for your edification:

then we have middleclass guy who says dumb things generally and george with his hillary44 sites...ohmygod people. give it up. you sound like morons. at the very least realize that your band of candidates look so trite and foolish next to her and obama and edwards as to be laughable.

11:10 PM

Dear Mr. Stupid Putz,
Who do you think you are? Do you really think that you are the only over educated intellectual idiot who trolls this site? Who are you to say anyone says dumb things generally? Who are you to state that others opinions are trite? I at least never signed my name on a comment as Stupid Putz- no it did not go over my head. I had a real education- versus one steeped in self esteem- and learned how and where to properly to sign things; right where you did. You are Mr. Stupid Putz.

There is a problem with people like you. When you cannot participate in an intelligent, logical argument, you resort to the locker room mentality of teenage boys, just like Kriminal Kos, MyDD, and Democratic Underground; vulgar, obscene, profane, insulting and low. Your method of intelligent argument is to demean and humiliate people to cover for your lack of intelligence and your inability to think critically. You are a Mensa moron. You lack ideas and intelligence. You equate intellectual capacity with your penis size. You suffer from LDS, the reason for your crepuscular thinking.

I warned you before. I asked nicely. Please do not insult me. Now, you must accept the consequences of your actions. Mr. Putz, you have unleashed something you will regret and all hell will follow. Prepare yourself. Steal yourself. Arm yourself. All of you teenage cretins are alike. You insult but cannot accept it; that is what PC is all about. Oh, and as far as I am concerned, nothing is sacred anymore. I will call a spade a spade- if you get my drift. I care not for your sensitive feelings, your past, or the history of your pathetic family and ancestors.

You, sir, are living proof that we should legalize post natal abortion. I care not for you. As of now, you are like dog excrement. You will be stepped on, scraped off, and blown in the wind.

When I get through with you, you will stoop so low, you will beg tituslut for sex. I hope he turns you down in the most humiliating and demeaning manner possible.

If Ann Althouse blocks me, it will be well worth it.

You, sir, are a sniveling coward, a cad, a scallywag, and a rapscallion. You are a charlatan and a fraud. I will spend all my time proving it to the world.

This is war. I am a firm believer that war is all out, no holds barred, inhumane, and pure unadulterated hell.

Have a nice day, Mr. Putz.

the name of the christmas song quoted was "i saw three ships a sailing" three ships. the three ships in ny harbor that night. the reason for the fireworks. i thought it was blatantly obvious. yet somehow some of the lesser lights turned it into the church year but that is ok as the sunday, that sunday, marks the end of the christmas year and the beginning of epiphany. lutherans often referred to it as transition sunday when we turn from celebrating the birth and look toward the resurrection.

the rest of your post is borderline psychopath but you knew that of course...well perhaps one of your personalities might have tumbled to it.
