"Supreme court opens term, rejects appeal on sex toy."

That's the Reuters headline on the big reopening of the Supreme Court. Looks like a momentous year!

"Legal experts are watching whether the court under Roberts limits or overturns recent precedents upholding ... programs to foster a racially diverse student body."

Well, at least they have the courtesy to avoid the usual dissembling of programs that foster a diverse student body, as if a student corpus where you have 50 white atheist liberals, 20 hispanic atheist liberals and 30 black atheist liberals is a "diverse" student body. A genuinely diverse student corpus and faculty is certainly a boon, but it is not something that can be accomplished by affirmative action, and a merely racically diverse student body corpus is a poor substitute.

Nothing proves we are in a sex obsessed society like that headline, the court rejects 1,900 cases and which one makes the headline?

Well who knows, maybe the other 1899 were all about butt sex. That could have been the mild one.

One thing I think is amusing about them letting the lower court ruling stand is that it further refutes the notion of a "right to privacy" in the Constitution. How could such a right protect the ability to abort a potential human life but not protect your choice of what object you want to touch to what part of your body?
