Liberal websites absorb/process the Al Franken news, part 3: Good.

The news about Al Franken has not yet arrived for processing at Good (which really is one of my bookmarks). The front page looks like this right now:

Good is... oh, what the hell is Good Magazine? I've forgotten. Here's a 2007 NPR piece "Magazine Makes 'Good'" ("So it's actually pretty nervy for a group of 20-somethings with a vision to create a magazine about social, political and environmental issues to name their magazine Good.")

Could you bring yourself to click on "9 Other Men And Assorted Objects Who Would Make A Better ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ Than Blake Shelton"? There must be somebody who's ripe for that style of humor, but it's not me, yet I clicked there so you wouldn't have to. Here's an example of the comedy you can hope to get from "good" men:
5. Your coworker, probably a guy named Brett or something

Brett is deputy VP of sales at the company where you work. He's a little dismissive and kind of a mansplainer, but he's reasonably cute and also would never yell at an airport shuttle bus driver for not being able to speak a “FUCKING word of English.” (Shelton, at a minimum, really, really wanted to do this once.)
Am I the last person in the world to read Good? I do realize that — despite reading the news continually — I am out of the loop on a lot of things. For example, I haven't a clue who Blake Shelton is, other than that he's someone who agreed to submit to People's sexiest man posing session. Good thing People didn't ask Al Franken.

And just so I don't have to do a separate post on how People is absorbing/processing Al Franken, here's a quick glimpse of all they've got:

(Click to enlarge and see how elegantly "Donald Trump’s Sexual Assault Accusers Demand Justice" offsets "Al Franken Accuser Leeann Tweeden Does Not Want Him Driven From Office." Listen to the women: Kick out Donald Trump and leave Al Franken alone.)

How People didn't "name" Jason Momoa as Sexiest Man Alive is crazy. It would have been perfectly timed to the into the Justice League movie. And even as a male I think that dude is hot.

They may very well toss Franken since there is no chance at all the seat will go to a republican. Once that happens they will then demand Trump's head because "It's only fair we got rid of our offender get rid of yours."

Blake Shelton is a country music singer and television personality. He is one of the perennial judges on "The Voice". He used to be married to Miranda Lambert and now is involved with Gwen Stefani. He's kind of a big deal.

"Donald Trump’s Sexual Assault Accusers Demand Justice"

Didn't they already get justice? Or do they demand special treatment?

Quaestor said...

With enough coverage, anything can be buried.

@Althouse, here's a somewhat younger Blake Shelton singing one of my all time favorite country duets with Miranda Lambert. The two would become a hot number, would marry in in 2011, but divorce in 2015.

Yeah, I know. It's not Bob Dylan. For one thing, Blake Shelton can actually carry a tune.*

And here's my favorite Blake Shelton song. Everybody's had days like this one.
__________

I've never heard of this "Good" site before. Judging a from cursory glance and from your description it seems to exists very very deep in the bubble, near the core the white liberal elite galaxy. I can only assume regular readers of this site must use it to bask in the comforting glow of liberal goodness. It's like comfort food for them.

Looks like Good is the Mad Magazine for humorless upper-income white progressives. People picked Blake Shelton because he has a lot of fans who probably don't read People.

Michael K said...

You can watch the evolving strategy of how the left can get rid of Trump.

Of course, they have allies like McConnell.

It will be interesting to watch.

I read Good when it was called Stuff White People Like.

I clicked through to see if I could find out who Blake Shelton is. I skimmed it for a second, realized I didn't care because richlb is right. Jason Momoa should have gotten the honors as sexiest man.

Are women really attracted to "Man-buns"?

Skim through any site directed at young women, and you wonder why we let them vote.

Be careful Ann you are showing signs of Andrea Dworkinism.

I like your last line.

Mom: ok boys, i reviewed what happened. It sounds like frankie broke the fancy lamp. Plain and simple. I mean, fifteen people saw you do it. Meanwhile, donnie was out in the back yard, and you told jim that you thought the lamp was ugly. I omit the nasty adjective you also used. You both deserve to be punished. Donnie, go to your room without dinner. Frankie, you can only watch 2 shows tonight.

Donnie: that sounds f'ing wrong!

Mom: justice aint blind, my boy. You might ponder how the real f'in world works, while we enjoy roast beef

Blake Shelton is also southern and white, so of course the pathetic dweeb who wrote it feverishly imagines Shelton would abuse people who don’t speak English.

I don't know that much about Blake Shelton, but he apparently has the same effect on liberals as Colin Kaepernick has on conservatives.,.....I don't think this is the year you want to be named sexiest man alive. That's just begging some woman from your past to come forward with a disturbing story.

This actually sounds like a reasonable plan. I doubt the Dems can execute it in an effective manner.

Toss them both and throw in Moore for good measure. Until Trumpists and rightists call for the resignation of Trump and Moore they have no moral high ground upon which to stand. Trump admits to sexually assaulting women, a picture exists of Franken doing so, Moore has multiple allegations against him.

Sanctimony never goes out of style.

Big Mike said...

@Actually, Unknown, if I lived in Alabama I would unhesitatingly vote for Roy Moore. Right now everything against Moore is an allegation. If he turns out to be guilty, the Senate has rules that will let it fix things later. If he's innocent, then he belongs in the Senate.

If the allegations turn out to be false then thunder and lightning needs to descend on his accusers, so that no one will ever be tempted to invent stories like that again.

That was the voices inside your own head.

You said it on two different threads, so I did it, too.

"Trump admits to sexually assaulting women"

Lies and innuendo aren't going to help you advance your position Unk. Not anymore than they helped Hillary. They just harden us in ours. Define down for better success. Start with something like verbal abuse, although that is still probably pushing it. Maybe something like unclean thoughts or something as a starting point. Work your way up from there.

One of these things is not like the others.

I wouldn't know Blake Shelton if he walked into my office and said "Hi, I'm Blake Shelton". I quit listening to country music when it was no longer country music. Around the time Garth what's-his-name became big.

I don't think there's anyone left alive, much less touring, that I would buy a ticket to see. I guess Alan Jackson or Asleep At The Wheel. Now get off my lawn, or I'll blast some Gary Stewart or Moe Bandy music at you.

Good sounds truly awful.

Wilbur I’m mostly with you, but not even Dwight Yoakam??

Thanks, Yoakam's a good one. I'm sure there's others, too. They just don't come to mind.

I'd vote for Roy Moore, even though I'm at odds with him on a number of political things. Why? He's a swamp drainer, and he makes libs crazier than even President Trump. Anyone they hate I take a favorable view of. Kinda' like Churchill's view of the devil and Hitler.

The RNC finally quit sending me donation-begging mail a couple of years ago. I wonder if they'll resume.

My wife votes for Aidan Turner (Irish actor).
World-class at brooding.

I dont see it, myself. But this is a question for the ladies.

Christy said...

Jason Momoa is the sexiest man alive today. Wonder if the rape of his bartered bride (later turned true love) in Game of Thrones made this the wrong time for him?

Clyde said...

Wilbur, granted that a lot of the stuff that comes out of Nashville these days is pop music with a twang, there still is good new music being made. I've been listening to a lot of red dirt country lately. I enjoy Turnpike Troubadours, Aaron Watson, Casey Donahew Band, Margo Price, Sturgill Simpson, Josh Abbott Band, Reckless Kelly, Jason Boland & the Stragglers, Randy Rogers Band, Sunny Sweeney... Lots of good stuff out there.

A couple of videos for you, the second one being more retro-country than the first:

Josh Abbott Band - Wasn't That Drunk (with Carly Pearce)

Margo Price - Hurtin' (On The Bottle)

Feminists use men like Bill Clinton and Al Franken as sexist objects to further their agenda.

Female chauvinists invite male chauvinists to target and exploit their female competitors. It's a sadistic trait common to chauvinists of both sexes, but especially significant when targeting women and girls, and, today, with transgender progress, men and boys, too. Normalization of abortion rites through denial of women's agency may have been a convenient side-effect.
