"Drudge... uses his personal Twitter account to tease his ideas and let his followers attempt to fill in the blanks on their own."

"In many ways, it's similar to how he works as a kind of news cycle puppetmaster with the Drudge Report, operating the website as a curated and intentional conversation that is wiped daily for whatever tomorrow might bring. To take Drudge's tweets too seriously, though, is an error. 'Ultimately [Twitter is] boring and the kids are always off to something new," he said [in a 2015 interview]. Of course, Drudge did not reveal that he was also off to something new — essentially 'breaking' Twitter to use it as a Snapchat-like blink-and-you-miss-it palimpsest for whatever comes to his mind."

From "The mystery and intrigue of Matt Drudge's Twitter feed" at The Week.

The 2015 interview is this (with Alex Jones). I've clipped out the part where Drudge rails against the corporate websites that mass human expression in one place:

"Don't get into this false sense that you are an individual when you are on Facebook. No you're not. You're a pawn in their scheme."

ADDED: I don't know what Drudge means in that clip when he says "the robots, which you're so profound on." The "you" is Alex Jones. I'm not a follower of Alex Jones, so whatever robot profundities have emitted from him I don't know. I know. I can Google it, but what will evil corporate Google let me see?
ALEX JONES: Folks, I have hundreds of articles I see every week about human-animal chimeras with no rights. You talked about people you know in research labs, I’ve talked to them too. You see humanoids, they’re like 80 percent gorilla, 80 percent pig, and they’re talking.... We need to make this illegal. This needs to be illegal. They’re talking about making it illegal to make child pedophile robots. Ok. Ok, make that illegal. But what about the humans spliced with animals? I mean this is beyond pedophila.
AND: That last bit makes commenter Balfegor say "That... that was a movie..." Ah, yes:

Can someone tell me if Jones is a modern troll in the style of Milo Y., or a classic conspiracy kook in the style of Art Bell? Ironic or sincere?

I still don't believe that Alex Jones is a real human being and not a lizard person being controlled by the Illuminati.

@Schorsch

Good question.

It is pretty entertaining.

But the freaky thing is you could ask the same question about Trump.

I'm thinking, these days, as The Beatles sang long ago: "Nothing is real."

Drudge has gone Black and White only, with no color pics. He seems to be saying that we are in the 1920s again with the Nazi Party ramping up to mind control a brainwashed population with Face Book in place of News Reels. The pro Muslim cadre of paid for Nazi propagandists has emerged from its cocoon in the Bush Family's Saudi connections.

Trump has exposed them. Jones and Drudge are the best messengers.

Tagged with Brando ( the commenter )

So Brando the commenter is actually Marlon Brando, who starred in The Island of Dr. Moreau?!?

(Does this count as doxing Brando the commenter?)

I doubt he's a troll, it would take far too much effort to keep up that act. If you watch Joe Rogan's podcast #911, they get stoned and hilariously ramble through a bunch of nonsense and there's no way somebody who was putting on an "act" could keep up the facade through that.

IMO Alex Jones is just a good communicator of guesses. He pioneered it as a business model. Today's best practitioner of that style is Mike Cernovich. These guys are wrong some times but their record of guessing right is 10 times better than the News Media's stable of blind leading the blind Expert Analysts.

And then there is the Presidential Twitterer.

Ralph L, only a reactionary ass such as yourself could believe that I might miss the SNL allusion.

No apologies needed.

I agree that the media is largely terrible, but I'd have to rank them ahead of a "Save the human-animal chimeras!" guy.

Are they talking about child sex robots? Althouse may need to revisit her position on sex robots.

Jones is also among the conspiracy theory bloggers who say Sandy Hook and subsequent mass shootings were false flag operations by the government to weaken the 2nd Amendment. They claim no one was really killed and the victims actors with fake blood and guts.

How does anyone associate with Alex Jones, and then try to retain their dignity?

Jones has backed down from his hateful claim that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was a hoax. He retracted, and apologized for, having spread the ridiculous stories about child sex abuse at the Comet Ping Pong pizzeria in Washington. He retracted, and apologized for, similar allegations regarding a Chobani yogurt factory.

Those stories are among hundreds of weird, disturbing stories about Alex Jones. And there is this, from his Wikipedia page:

Personal life
Jones has three children with ex-wife Kelly Jones. The couple divorced in 2015. In 2017, Kelly sought sole or joint custody of their children due to Alex's behavior. She claimed "he's not a stable person" and "I'm concerned that he is engaged in felonious behavior, threatening a member of Congress". Alex's attorney responded that "he's playing a character" and described him as a "performance artist".[77][78] In court, Jones denied playing a character and called his show "the most bona fide, hard-core, real McCoy thing there is, and everybody knows it."[79] The court awarded Kelly the power to decide where their children live.[80]

Speaking of Island of Doc Moreau: I recommend the film "Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau" about the production of the film. Original director Richard Stanley was fired from the project part way in and John Frankenheimer took over. The oddities of Marlon Brando on set add to the amazing story.

Ann Althouse said...

"No, you Ignorance Slut, it means Althouse mispelt Balfegor."

No, I just simultaneously screwed up the tag for Marlon Brando and forgot to put in the tag for the commenter I front-page.

(If I front-page a commenter I ALWAYS mean to give that person a tag. No exceptions. It's always a mistake if I don't.)

Thanks for the recommendation of "Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau."

I added that to my watchlist and see that it's free (at least right now) on Amazon Prime.

As for the original Brando movie, it's on HBO Go right now.

I saw it in the theater. It got some bad reviews at the time, but I remember it was watchable and there are many fascinating elements. Brando is very weird and playing a weird person, go who knows where the weirdness came from.

Very interesting. Chuck has just vouched for Alex Jones by going out of his way to label Jones a socially unacceptable Con man...one who even hates the sacred dead New Hope School children. That's right, it is our commenter Chuck, who hates that con men pretend to be what they are not, that wants us to know Jones is The Big Enemy Who must be pre-emptively smeared.

Ralph L said...

So when Althouse thinks of Balfegor, does she think of sexy young Brando or weird old Brando?

Well, if one is a "lifelong republican", one attempts to find a way, one supposes.

Sounds exactly like a majority of the dems who believe W Bush either played an active role in 9-11 or let it happen on purpose.

A majority of dems believe that, as well that Putin actually changed vote totals.

A majority of dems.

That's the kind of stat that is going to get our "lifelong republican" ramped up into full-blown Democrat Defense Mode muy pronto.

This is just a guess -- I don't follow Alex Jones, either -- but I think Drudge's robot reference to Jones has to do with the fake "bots" on Twitter and elsewhere. They swarm YouTube posters and people on Twitter (and perhaps your blog) with provocative comments. They're fairly hard to distinguish (at least for me) from real people. I've read they're programmed with AI, but I can't remember where I read it. In any event, these bots are designed to appear like real people and are used (by real people) to shape people's thoughts and reactions (including stifling speech) to various events, just by their sheer mass. People think their views are in the minority because so many "bots" say otherwise.

Literary allusions, particularly Shakespeare, are said to confuse them. "How thou doth protest; you've made my point" will draw a gibberish response (again, so it's been reported). I've also heard that if you write a comment and translate it into say, Farsi, before posting it, the bots will write you back in Farsi (though I've never bothered to give this a test, either).

Watch Homeland on HBO (or Showtime?). The most recent season featured an "Alex Jones" character who works for the CIA and has an army of social media "bots" he strategically deploys to undermine a fictional President-Elect Hillary Clinton. (Obviously the Clinton part didn't work out, but they didn't have much time to re-write the episodes. The bot-swarm part of the plot, though, to undermine our real-life president-elect, appears to have some truth -- with or without CIA involvement.)

I'm not going to defend any cohort of Dems who think that 9/11 was an inside job, or who think that Putin actually changed any vote totals.

I am going to laugh at them.

Same way I'd laugh at anyone who thought that Obama wasn't born in Honolulu. Or who think that Obama was a secret Muslim. Or who think that vaccines cause autism.

It is so insanely weird to me, that you'd write something like this, Drago: "Sounds exactly like a majority of the dems who believe W Bush either played an active role in 9-11 or let it happen on purpose." When in fact, Trump was the guy who, in the February 13, 2016 Republican debate in South Carolina said that "They [the George W. Bush Administration] lied. They said there were weapons of mass destruction; there were none. They knew there were none; they lied."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INRdArOAQus

Fucking clown Donald Trump is as close to a 9/11 Truther as the Republican Party (and I use "Republican" very loosely in the case of Donald Trump) has ever seen.

LOL

For the dems/leftist media, Chuckie pulls out every trick in the book to assist them.

For Trump, Chuckie just makes it up.

Well played #StrongCNNDefender. Well played.
