"[I]t’s not easy to box Brat into a neat caricature of an anti-immigration zealot or Tea Party demagogue, or, in Time’s hasty reporting, a 'shopworn conservative boilerplate.'"

"If Brat ascends to Congress, which is quite likely given the Republican-leaning district that he’ll run in as the GOP nominee, he may actually continue taking on powerful elites in Washington."

Writes Lee Fang at The Nation.

And Cantor and his staff will be moving to K Street to keep working for their corporate masters while wining and dining their former colleagues. The DC area is the wealthiest in the nation for this reason.

Boxing in Brat will be this summer's media game. The winner gets a SNL trophy, two Emmys and a lifetime achievement award.

"Tea Party" has lost all its meaning. GOP establishment types call ANYONE in the party who gives them trouble "tea party." It's just shorthand for dissident or troublemaker now. Means NOTHING.

But the media are encouraged by both sides to attribute these upsets to this fictitious but scary Tea Party.

We don't have to.

You guys said the republican party was dead in 2008, never to return.

And then again in 2012.

In the Wilderness for the next 50 years.

Not to be seen again in our lifetime.

So, why would we have to "kiss the Republican Party goodbye" again?

They are already gone.

According to you.

Oh, BTW, more black african girls kidnapped, raped and enslaved by your islamic pals in Africa.

But hey, it's only some black kids in Africa being enslaved.

It's not like you've spoken much on that subject or anything.

From the article:

"There are many lessons to be learned from the Cantor-Brat race. For one, it’s worth reflecting on the fact that not only did Cantor easily out raise and outspend Brat by over $5 million to around $200,000 in campaign funds, but burned through a significant amount on lavish travel and entertainment instead of election advocacy. Federal Election Commission records show Cantor’s PAC spent at least $168,637 on steakhouses, $116,668 on luxury hotels (including a $17,903 charge to the Beverly Hills Hotel & Bungalows) and nearly a quarter-million on airfare (with about $140,000 in chartered flights)—just in the last year and a half!"

Fang says Brat made a much bigger deal out of Cantor's insider status and links with Wall Street than he did with immigration.

Actually, in a real sense of being a political party that will actually provide meaningful opposition to Il Dufe and the Democratic "liberals"* trying to drag us the rest of the way down the Road to Serfdom, we really don't have a Republican Party now--just a kind of Vichy Republicanism that wants to collaborate rather than take a stand for liberty.

*And by "liberals" I mean of course "tax-happy, coercion-addicted, power-tripping State-fellators."

"Time's hasty reporting" is of a pair with the NYT's "dissimulating".

The truth is actually in the well-established aphorism: "Lies, Damn Lies, and Liberal Journalism."

Brat is going to congress. The Democrats didn't run a primary in the district, so they will have no one on the ballot in November.

True, in much the same way as "Neo-Con" was thrown around so much it boiled down to "not a leftist".

It's pretty sad when The Nation provides far more thoughtful reporting than The New York Times does.

I thought they did a little conference call magic and got a guy in under the wire.

Another professor from the same school as Brat.

Not that missing a deadline ever stops the dems.

In fact, there are no election/nomination deadlines/laws that constrain the dems as we've seen time and time again.

I never hear "Shopworn progressive boilerplate" or "Shopworn Socialist boilerplater." Wonder why that is?

No one is "anti-immigration", but there is an obvious interest to preserve the rights of citizens, offer preference to law-abiding immigrants, and holding leaders in Central and South America, Africa, Asia, etc. accountable for conditions which motivate mass emigration from their nations.

The "Tea Party" is simply individual American citizens who perceive a real need to address progressive corruption and the dysfunctional convergence in DC.

The conservative "boilerplate" begins with the national charter and constitutional jurisprudence, and includes a respect for individual dignity, recognition of intrinsic value, and social assistance for rehabilitation.

From comparing George Zimmerman's shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin to abortion to calling for the abolition of the Food and Drug Administration and encouraging the adoption of the silver monetary standard, Zachary Werrell – one of just two paid staffers for the upstart campaign of Randolph-Macon College economics professor [David] Brat – in 2012 and 2013 sought to build a public profile as a socially conservative libertarian voice. The Facebook postings were either taken down or made private overnight Tuesday in the wake of Brat's win, but Yahoo News took screenshots of some of the remarks before they were removed from view,…

Hey Crack, maybe with your next paycheck you could but that writer some commas. Meanwhile since he compared the Martin shooting to abortion he presumably disapproved the shooting so you like him now, right?
