On the off chance that it's illegal to pick up a turtle, be it known that is not Meade's hand.

Whoa, someone needs some cuticle work done and I don't mean the turtle.

Is the turtle Meade-like or does Meade like turtles?

Turtles carry salmonella so wash afterward.

I had a turtle just like that one when I was about 8 or 9. I lost it in the house and in the spring, months later, my mother found it behind my dresser. It was all dry and shriveled. She put it in a bowl of water and it seemed to swell up, then it stuck out its head and walked away.

Hibernation, I guess.

Alternate title- "Turtles are kinda pissed at Meade."

Look at the resolution on that camera! You can see each individual scale and whorl. I bet it was taken with a phone camera too. The clarity of the photographic images taken by telephones these days is miraculous. I took a pic of the old Hollywood Citizen-News building from the sidewalk in front of it. I could zoom in to see paint chips on the fourth floor window sills.

That's a Woolworth turtle.

While driving on a country road this morning, I stopped to encourage a medium-sized turtle across the road. Amazingly, as I walked behind it, it speeded up. I've never seen a turtle move so fast.

We bought a two-inch red-eared slider for my son when he was six, at the height of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles craze. Son is now twenty-five and living twelve hundred miles away, turtle is still at home, eight inches long and thriving. He is an ornery cuss. His name is Leonardo.

Waiter! Turtle soup, please.
And make it snappy.

That would make a pretty cool tattoo.

I can really see the German word for turtle in that photo -- Schildkröte = shield toad. Well, except for the kröte part which has a murky etymology and sounds like scrota.

Snapping turtles can get very big and should be respected.
