"4 Pinocchios for Obama’s claim that Republicans have ‘filibustered about 500 pieces of legislation.'"

From WaPo's Fact Checker, Glenn Kessler.
On just about every level, this claim is ridiculous.

We realize that Senate rules are complex and difficult to understand, but the president did serve in the Senate and should be familiar with its terms and procedures. Looking at the numbers, he might have been able to make a case that Republicans have blocked about 50 bills that he had wanted passed, such as an increase in the minimum wage. But instead he inflated the numbers to such an extent that he even included votes in which he, as senator, supported a filibuster.

It would be more efficient to point out when Obama is telling the truth.

if he thinks they've blocked legislation so far, wait until the new senate is sworn in next january

RecChief said...

how many pieces of legislation has Harry Reid blocked by filling the tree and other procedural road blocks?

RecChief said...

I for one can't wait to see Obama veto bill after bill after bill, all the while talking about 'obstrucitonist' Republicans and Tea Partiers.

WTF?

The Zero is a liar and a con man?

Who knew?

Whew, was good to get that out.

I'll be here all week folks, make sure to try your waiter and tip the veal

Of course he is. It's dismaying that someone who has risen to the top office in the land would have such little respect for that office that he's willing to utter such whoppers.

When DOESN'T Obama lie??? He's so smooth, lies just flow when he opens his mouth.

Desperation time for Democrats: they are finally waking up. Lying and over the top exaggerations will only increase (see Harry Reid).

Republicans: fight them back on every level. Remind the American people every single day how the Democrats own the condition of the country, the economy, our increasingly weak standing in the world.

The Democrat Party is responsible for why you still don't have a job 6 and a half years into "Brilliant" Obama's leadership.

The Democrat Party is responsible for why infrastructure around you is still falling apart.

The Democrat Party is responsible for why America's students are STILL ranking low in all tested levels, both nationally and internationally.

The Democrat Party is responsible for why there are not even the most basic improvements towards a better immigration system.

The Democrat Party is like a team you hired to run your business that fails and keeps failing but has kept its job by blaming everything else but itself.

Democrats had their opportunity the last 6 years and they couldn't do it. It's time to retire and fire the clowns, the Democrat Party in every office.

Democrat Party Motto: It's not our fault!

Here's an even bigger bull shit story from Obama.

Without his BS, he's got nothing.

Hey Original, the guy is, respectfully, nothing but lies and distortions all day every day.

Hmmm. Joe Wilson was right after all. As Tank says, "Who knew?"

Unfortunately, the people who voted for him before are gullible enough to believe this and vote for the Democratic nominee in 2016.

If you added Up all the pinocchios and then placed them end to end you could create a pole that reached the clouds.

What he probably doesn't notice when he bandies around these accusations is that he attest Republicans a lot of staying power ...

The man is incompetent, lazy and not that bright, characteristics that were ignored in 2 national elections because he's half black. Why the fuck would he know or care to learn the rules of the Senate during his short and unremarkable time there?

Good on the WaPo for just sucking it up and giving him all four.

Just like the SAT's, Wapo is will need to change the Pinocchio measurement. Look for an announcement in the near future that four doesn't mean four, four means two.

The perfect combination of an incurious figurehead leader supported by third rate staff work.

It's pretty much how they have governed.

Original Mike said...

His "you can keep your doctor" is a window into his pathology. He continued to utter it for years after the measure passed, when it was no longer necessary. He had to know he would be found out. I don't understand why he did it. Did he think he was above the consequences? Is the man just a pathological liar?

The Republican's filibustered five hundred communist bills? That's cause for celebration.

Democrat and Progressive Leadership Example 101:

Boko Haram murders hundreds (burns them alive, slits throats, blows them up, [insert typical jihad behavior]).

Democrat/Progressive: "They are not terrorists! In fact, let's make sure they get guns from our Libya success!"

o.O

Boko Haram has now killed thousands and kidnaps about 300 girls and plans to sell them into sexual slavery.

Democrat/Progressive: "They are terrorists! Let's share that hashtag! [insert sad face selfie]"

Occasionally, Kessler will award 4 pinnochios to a Democrat's lie if the consequences of the lie are minor. If the lie is of a type that might make Obama and the Democrats look like a bunch of lying assholes who can't be trusted, Kessler will massage the lie and explain why it's partly true or inelegantly expressed or something along those lines.

"... the president did serve in the Senate..."

Generally I eschew thoughtless online shorthand. However there is no more evocative response to this perhaps intentional solipsism than LOL! LOL!

Obama has been lying his whole life (has ANYONE seen his actual birth certificate yet?) so it is no surprise he keeps on lying.

He just can't help it. It is in his genes to be dishonest.

Is it his Community Organizer background?

So obama was off by a factor of 10.

For him, that's a massive improvement.

madisonfella: "He just can't help it. It is in his genes to be dishonest."

Hmmm.

Is leftism genetic?

Nature or nurture? That's the question.

As a rule of thumb, everything Obama says is in four Pinocchios territory. I'll admit that occasionally he breaks that rule and just says something wacky that probably can't be classed as a lie.

This just reinforces my theory that Obama is not intelligent, foolish and lazy.

He is President because being President is fun and cool. He has no desire to do anything while there except have fun being the President. He isn't ideological, there is no master plan, he has no agenda.

Unless it has to do with parties, and travel, and speeches and golf. He's an incredibly shallow man that people have imparted depth too.

Be careful, many years ago at Universal Studies in LA, after a late night concert, a friend of mine dove heard first into a river off a bridge (Only about 5 feet high). The water was only a few inches deep and he smashed up his face pretty badly. He thought that river had depth too and all it got him was pain and suffering.

Obama has no depth.

We hired a guy whose relevant work history was demonizing those he disagrees with and the result is a President who demonizes those he disagrees with.

In summary we got exactly what Democrats value most.

Drago said...

Hey, weren't the republicans blocking obama's bills like, several years ago?

Isn't that supposed to be too long ago to care about?

Reid's "nuclear" option is going to come back to haunt the Democrats and just listen to the caterwauling when it does.

Levi Starks said...

Why yes, he did serve in the Senate.
I think I remember him giving a speech in opposition to raising the debt limit. Something about it being a "failure of leadership"

Sigivald said...

Don't worry.

The second the Republicans have a majority in the Senate again, the filibuster will go back to being The Most Important Protection We Have Against An Overweening Majority.

What does a man have to do to earn the elusive 5th Pinocchio: inveterate liar?

President Obama seems to believe he can lie with impunity and his minions will swear to it. I think, sooner or later, one of these lies is going to take root and grow into something we all will regret.

"Isn't that supposed to be too long ago to care about?"

It really puts that whole "the Constitution is over 100 years old" thing into perspective, doesn't it. That's like 50 times farther in the past. It's probably a myth.
