Socks and sandals.

Believe it.

This is perhaps the worst-received Sartorialist photograph ever. From the comments:
Lucky your post’s title had Paris in it otherwise I would have thought it was ironic! Now I just think how decadent Parisians must be to find this edgy! Normcore huh! It reminds me of the French character in one of Nancy Mitford’s books who tells her English friends she’s discovered the most chic London store full of marvellous things and they’re all wondering what they’ve overlooked and it turns out to be ‘the Woolworth’.

That girl is a school kid. Her attire is utilitarian not a fashion statement.

I saw some of the most foolish fashion in France. Just crap thrown together, any which-way, not making any sense.

I don't know what's wrong with the photo (I can't see the sandals for some reason) but, if it's France, I can imagine.

BTW - I define "French Fashion" for men as the old nerd look, plaid shirt, etc., without the pocket protector.

I've said it before -- why people cannot recognize that Sartorialist is satire straight up is quite beyond me.

The Sartorialist seems to have a fixation on young, thin women. There are no shots of ordinary looking plump women on that site.

Alex - don't whine about it here. Send him a scolding email.

Socks and sandals are de rigueur among middle-aged liberal douchebags in my part of the world. A local bank even has a television commercial riffing on the topic.

I love wearing socks with my sandals.

My wife won't go out in public with me when I do that.

It's a terrible fashion faux paw.
Right up until the day that it isn't.

What is weird is that it is believed odd for someone coming off a playing field to shed their football boots for comfy Adidas sandals. I have seen this look around playing fields for the last forty years.

You know what tho ... thigh gap. Straight up.

School uniform plus comfort. Next.

Michael- exactly. The person wasn't thinking fashion. They were thinking "Well, I can't walk home in my cleats!"

I wear white socks with Crocs.

Right now in fact.

I prefer the Dewey crowe look:

Combat boots, calf length socks, shorts.

Oddly, I could not find a picture of it just now.

I wear black socks with mine. Comfort. I even wear them with a suit. Flat feet trumps all.

If you don't wear socks your sandals begin to stink in short order, and then all those holes let the smell out so compete strangers move away from you when you're standing in line at Stater Brothers. Don't ask me how I know.

I wonder if the 21st Century will be remembered as the one in which everyone wanted to tell everyone else what to do. I for one don't care if you wear socks with your sandals, or if you drink sugary drinks or smoke or believe in a god or don't believe in a god or if you eat meat, etc. etc.

Come on!!! That is how you know it is winter in Austin Texas -- the hippies wear socks with their sandals. Been that way for 45 years!!!!
