What About Two Hours of Relentless Undulation?

What else did Meade have to say?

I'm guessing two hours of relentless adultery would be a cakewalk.

I thought initially that this was about the Kennedy mini-series last night. In any case, Allen points to the reality that at some point, those with power need not waste time adulating those much lower in the status hierarchy. At this point in his career, it really doesn't matter one way or another if he is viewed as supporting those who essentially worked for him or not. His movies will continue to be acclaimed, and may even be successful, and actors will continue to work hard to be in therm, even if viewed as an ungrateful boor by the movie industry.

Still, who cares?

"two hours of relentless adultery"

Woody and Mia were never married, and Mia seems to admit that she had sex with Sinatra during the period of her relationship with Woody.

Time to get over it, I'd say. Woody's expiated his sins by now. He's stayed with Soon-Yi for many many years. Where is the evidence of Mia's loyalty in marriage? Does she really deserve your allegiance? Notice she attacks Woody but he doesn't return the attacks. Personally, I'm over the old scandal and why aren't you?

Separate the man from the artist, that's a wonderful quote.

Well I don't know if I would pick sides here. They both seem neurotic and phony and narcissists of the highest order. And even if Mia is a bitch its hard to defend dating her adoptive daughter while she's living in the house with you.

But it could have been worse. At least Woody didn't pull an OJ.

That should say BUT even if Mia is a bitch its hard to defend dating her adoptive daughter while she's living in the house with you.

I agree with Althouse. I really wasn't passing judgment on the man's life.

Beside a subliminal misread of the "adulation" quote, my "two hours of relentless adultery" comment was inspired as a homage to Allen's neurotic style.

The inner voice Woody Allen would always confess, almost in spasm, some smoldering urge to debauchery, always convinced he could palliate it with an arbitrary boundary of, say, a very specific time interval of two hours.

That's where my thought came from.

Any resulting "cakewalk" for the neurotic Allen, of course, would be more rooted in assuaging his guilt-ridden psyche than effectively keeping his taboo secret.
