Thanks to everyone who shopped through the Althouse portal yesterday although I must say I would never hold it against anyone who chooses to buy Dr. Helen's book through the InstaPundit portal instead - Glenn being the exceptionally good husband, father, and American dreamer that he is. No man on strike, he.

Now that I have a kindle fire -- the brother's -- I have to figure out how to get books.

It was pw protected, so I had to clear it. I wonder what my brother was reading? He has (er, had) really interesting tastes. I had all of his passwords for other things, but not the kindle. (Note to all readers: Do you have something that identifies passwords for ALL your online accounts in the case you die?)

Some day my sister will compile brother's poetry. Some are really bleak, but I figure that would make them a best seller.

I bought my mom a Kindle last night, but forgot to use the portal. Sorry, but that's what you get for voting for Obama. I wish we were even now, but my fury is just growing every day.

Sorry for your loss, MadMan. Glad you still have your singular talent at finding silver linings in visible masses of liquid droplets or frozen crystals made of water or various chemicals suspended in the atmosphere above the surfaces of planetary bodies.

Btw, will we ever see the sun again?

Meade said...

bags, this is war I'll have you know. And, no, I'm not planning on going to Congress to get no stinking authorization either. So there.

bagoh20 said...

Helen Smith wrote my biography and didn't even send me a copy? That's cold.

Meade said...

Oh, hello, bagho. I see what you're doing there.

bagoh20 said...

Meade, I got no issue with you, but that wife of yours and her boyfriend in D.C. have me pissed off. It's unfortunate that you must be collateral damage, but my drone pilot smokes a lot of weed on the job, so keep your head down. And stay away from any cows. I don't know why, but half of his drone strikes in Wisconsin hit a dairy cow.

bagoh20 said...

Nice try, Meade, and you almost got me too. No I'm not buying a damned helicopter today so you can get beer money. Can't you see I'm very busy?

MadisonMan said...

Btw, will we ever see the sun again?

I saw it yesterday, I think. Maybe it was the day before. (It was a very brief sighting).

There may be several hours of sun on Saturday. Hooray!

MadisonMan said...

..and BagOh, just so you and your stoned drone pilot know, I live several blocks south of Meadehouse. I would appreciate it if the damage is limited to the area *north* of Regent Street.

Thank you in advance.

Yeah, bags, what MadMan said. And also, this:

Does anyone have a verdict on the Paperwhite Kindle?

Ayn Rand liked to tell people that her husband was on strike against the irrationality of the world. But he was really just drunk.

In the event there is no cafe today, or that if there is, I am unable to comment, This article is well worth a read on D-Day.

Ann Althouse said...

Here, Patrick, I put up a D-Day post:

Oh crap, she reads this stuff. Up above, I was talking about Meade's other wife.

bags,

1st rule of Portal Club: You do not talk about PORTAL CLUB.
2nd rule: You DO NOT talk about my OTHER WIVES.

I like the Keyboard better, but I think it's the touch aspect that I take issue with. I don't like the Touch or the Paperwhite as much as the regular or the Keyboard.

Freeman Hunt said...

If you read mostly at night, the integrated light in the Paperwhite might be worth dealing with the touchscreen.

The mentioned flashlight is a present for my girlfriend, who does not share my unwholesome fascination with them and thus fumbles around a lot in the dark at work.
