David Weigel debunks a video that has never been bunked in the first place.

Is there anyone who has ever thought that this was anything but a joke?

Crooks and Liars is laughing at the "morons"
who believe they're looking at "actual footage of Barack Obama's birth taking place in a hospital in Kenya." But as far as I can tell, they are morons for believing they are looking at actual morons who believe they are looking at actual footage....

He who laughs at morons should look to it that he himself does not become a moron. And when you gaze long into the idiocracy the idiocracy also gazes into you.

That's an example.

I love the idea of Obama Sr videotaping the birth, like an 80s American yuppie. Hilarious.

I love that C&L's link to the "crazies" who think this video is real goes to Weigel's post, which links to the originating site. Where the very first comment discusses the obvious fakery.

Too good to check

That baby's about ten months old, I think, but then, Obama always was precocious.

debunk (v.)
1923, from de- + bunk (n.2); first used by U.S. novelist William Woodward (1874-1950), the notion being "to take the bunk out of things." Related: Debunked; debunking.

If you just remember to always remove yourself one step, you'll see that it's always the Democrats who are morons.

Weren't we all taught this years ago in its purest form by Stephen Potter

Wiegel is a fat slob. I saw him in Wash-DC many times. He wants to be the next Ross Douthat or David Brooks at the NYT.

He will be one. As NYT wants liars to work for them.

Liars at NYT are like liars at the WH. They do not know what is: Benghazi. They are scared of the word: Benghazi.

Weigel best buddy is Ezra Klein, another pseudo intellectual, who is afraid of the word: Benghazi. He got him a job at the Post, remember that.

I suddenly wish this was like watergate, and there were reporters hungry. I watched All the President's Men again last night. Oh, I saw Argo this week. At the end, virtually, everyone in the audience clapped as the Americans were safely on the plane.

Why cannot reporters today hold Obama accountable for Benghazi?

I just cannot believe that there is NOT ONE reporter who wants to tackle the truth.

Is every-one just focused on getting an interview with POTUS, a book deal, a column, and a tv show?

I mean, are reporters today shallow, lazy, morbidly obese?

The doctor's Kenyan flag pin was a nice touch, but I think they made one mistake in the video--"Ann Dunham" should've held the baby's hand up to wave to the camera when she cradled him.

Didn't everybody do that in those old home movies?

Anonymous said...

Is there a way to recall the "Freedom of the Press", our first amendment? That is, is there a way to put this on trial with respect to Benghazi?

Hilarious. Go read the comments at C&L as they chastise and ridicule everyone on the right that is falling for this obvious fakery, but then others comment how the usual righting blogs don't believe it. Talk about setting up and attacking a straw man!

I don't have all day to check this out, but my working assumption is that no one believed this was real. It's not even subtle humor. Why would Weigel debunk it without making sure a lot of people or some notable/smart people were getting it wrong? Otherwise he's the dumb guy. How can he not protect his own image? It shows how deep he is in the delusion that other people are stupid. That's a very risky place to be, because you're preening about your own smartness as you continually risk doing something dumb.

Chip S. said...

Careful. You might lose 90% of the commentariat here if we started worrying about this risk.

It's a variation of the old 'fake vomit' gag. The fun is watching to see which morons fall for the gag.
It's especially funny when some pompous jackass falls for it and get all excited.

This is sad. This is an issue that should have bi-partisan support. Someone made a comically bad video showing Obama's "Kenyan birth". We all should be able to share a laugh at what was clearly intended as a joke. I liked the video and I would like to think that, in this case, both sides could make self-deprecating jokes. Such as...

Conservative: "Hazzah! The proof we needed!"

Liberal: "Ack! We are doomed! The fraud has been exposed." The liberal crumples to the floor in uncontrollable sobs as the conservative does Obama's I-just-got-bin-Laden touchdown dance.

When my wife gets home, I am going to completely deadpan to her: "Wifey, they discovered footage from Obama's birth... in Kenya." And then show her the video. Very funny.

This was good satire. It fooled the people who should "get it." Don't blame the dog whistle when your ears are out of tune.

If I were behind this forgery, I would have just linked to any of the thousands of "monkey giving birth to baby monkey" videos on YouTube.

Ding! Racist.

One of the brilliant commenters at C&L points out that "super-8" is "16 mm."

The dope got that exactly backwards. The original 8 mm was 16 mm that was cut in half and had sprocket holes on only one side. Super 8 has sprocket holes (smaller) on both sides of the film strip.

My father got his first movie camera in 1948. Why don't the idiots ask someone over 21 ?

Joe Schmoe said...

@Tyrone Slothrop, I thought the same thing. That 'newborn' is at least 6-8 months old.

Great video. Love it. Hilarious.

We are human, almost everything we do can be considered dumb at some point. The secret is to not get too worked up over it. Life goes on, have a laugh at yourself. You'll live longer and be happier.

Look at Biden. He's the happiest dumbass on the face of the earth. God love ya', Joe.

Many, many posts ago, I suggested that Titus was America's Politico (probably back when the majority hand not yet caught on that it was satire). Don't feel that way now, but back then Titus talked about his Indian "girl"friend (and AP's lingo/syntax sounded Indian) & it seemed like Titus & AP made rare appearances, and when they did, it was about the same time.

No wait. I got it...a little kid goes trick or treatin' as a buccaneer. He rings the door bell, and this lady answers and says "Oh my! Are you a pirate?!?" And the kid says "Yeah! Gimme' some fuckin' candy, bitch!" Did I say this was Chicago? It was, and the kid was Trayshon Rasheedi Jones, a 18 year old 6th grader, who had taken over the crips gang at age 16 by "cappin' dat' fool in dey' ass!" He also killed 17 innocent bystanders. The police let him go because of his broken home life.

Weigel once called me a birther because I asked why Obama's literary bio used to say he was born in Kenya, when everybody knows he was actually born in Hawaii. "Birther," like every other word in every other language, means whatever a leftist means at the moment he's saying it.

I heard one today that was MOST AMUSING!

So this radio station is having a contest for the funniest joke. Listeners send in their best jokes and the funniest one will be selected and read on air the next week. So this guy who always thought his puns were really funny decides to write down ten of his best and send them all in.

So the following week he tunes in to find out if any of his jokes won, but no pun in ten did.
