"What Time Does the Superbowl Start?"

= the best-ever string of words for pulling internet traffic.

Part of the strategy is the missing space. It should be: Superb Owl.

AND: Speaking of the Super Bowl, here's Madonna:

Who doesn't want to walk along the helmeted heads of football players as if they were a cobblestone street? And... where can I get wall-sconces like that (see 2:25)?

Usually the worst game of the year.

The best part is the commercials.

I don't know about y'all, but the first thing that pops into my head when I think "football" and "Superbowl" is Madonna.

Who are the trannies in the Madonna video?

Wince said...

Instead of "Hoo!", the "Superb Owl" this year says "Ho!".

The old broad's gettin' creaky.

I clicked on the video solely to see the sconces. I didn't even make it a minute. Truly awful. There is (a very little bit) of Madonna's stuff I liked (Live to Tell e.g.), but this is awful.

Not a Nicki Minaj fan.

I think you'll have to make the sconces and it looks like a fun project. Especially if you make five or six at once like that. At first I thought they were real people. I didn't embiggen the video to examine closely maybe they are real people. But in lieu of real people, I'd start with dressing mannequin sections and I'd look at the motors that move sweeping cameras. Light mounted inside the helmet to shine out through the face mask. I agree that would be an AWESOME rec room.

Linking to yourself and your clever use of wordplay?

Who do you think you are, Crack Emcee?

Madonna descends into self-parody.

Palladian said...

Yeah, it's really hard to call that melange of soft-serve digital fibrillation, skim milk-thin vocalizations, eye-rollingly trite sentiments and syncopated shouting a "song". It sounds more like the audio equivalent of mechanically-separated chicken, a slurry of Madonna cliches ground up in some large machine and served on a slice of Wonder bread.

Madonna descends into self-parody.

Shatneresque? Nobody's that good.

I'm somehow reminded, also, of Lucille Ball in Mame.

Watching someone of Madonna's age singing Gimme all your love like she's 25 just sounds kinda pathetic.

MadisonMan, it's even worse than you think... It's called "Give Me All Your Luvin".

Madonna self-aware?

Madonna: I'm still the stankiest slut. Take note of the original, little Gaga girl.

Me: pretty amazing for 50.

What was the deal with the baby carriage at the beginning?

The message I got was "I just now reminded you that I'm an aging soccer mom, but I want you to forget about that and pretend I'm still the hot young Madonna that hit the big time all those years ago, even though this piece can't hold a candle to my groundbreaking early work."

Is this Madonna speaking to Lady Gaga?

“There’s a lot of ways to look at it. I can’t really be annoyed by it …because, obviously, I’ve influenced her.” But the Material Girl became coy when the conversation turned to “Born This Way.” “When I heard it on the radio …I said that sounds very familiar,” Madonna said.

Asked if that felt annoying, Madonna responded, “It felt reductive.” Pressed as to whether that was a good or bad thing, Madonna told Cynthia McFadden to “look it up” — we did; the term means “minimal” or “crude” — before smiling slyly and taking a sip from her tea cup.

She should get back to directing terrible movies about Nazi sympathizers.

Weak tea. and what Palladian said.

Look, if your're going to game the search engine, you could at least put the answer in the post.

Madonna looks hot. Nicki Minaj looks okay. The other one I don't know.

I'm watching it for the first time Irene.. and I had the same thought.

It could all be a marketing stunt to sell rec.. its not records anymore.. nor cds.

Its a marketing stunt.

Madonna at half-time?

*click*

Not even eye-candy anymore. Too stringy.

It's been years since Madonna could sing live and stay on key. She'll lip-synch her entire performance, guaranteed.

lotta cranky old farts around here.
madge is looking great and the vid and song are fun. (note the keane reference to nicki's 'stupid ho' vid.) madonna has been the undisputed queen of pop music for thirty years now and still had the largest grossing tour by a female last year..not too shabby.

To be fare to Lady Gga.. and I'am not a fan.

Madonna used material from ABBA in one of her recordings.

See if this sounds familiar.

Maybe ABBA lifted it too.. the piece sounds like its not part of the original score.. it sounds like music you would hear at a western.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Oh, maybe I should mention the evidence against Madonna.

Hung Up

Madonnas version is better.. and maybe that's her point.

If you are going to copy/homage.. improve it.. its your duty as an artist?.. or something.. that's my interpretation of "reductive".

Of course I'm biased.
Madonna can do no wrong.

Chris Althouse Cohen said...

Lance: Madonna doesn't lip synch in concert. Perhaps you're thinking of Britney Spears.

Lem: This should be too obvious to even point out, but Madonna used a sample of an ABBA song in Hung Up, for which she gave the writers of the original ABBA song co-songwriter credit and royalties. I believe I've heard that ABBA made more money off of the sample than they did off the original song. Sampling is very very common in current music and is not wrong or illegal by any stretch of the imagination, for the same reason that doing a cover of another person's song is not wrong or illegal. That's not comparable to ripping off another artist. In fact, it's the opposite.

I was unaware.. about the royalty.
