President Obama evolves beyond "evolving."

The NYT reports:
After months of saying his position on same-sex marriage is “evolving,” President Obama on Wednesday traded that language for comments that stopped just short of endorsing the notion that gay people have the right to marry....

“I think what you’re seeing is a profound recognition on the part of the American people that gays and lesbians and transgender persons are our brothers, our sisters, our children, our cousins, our friends, our co-workers, and that they’ve got to be treated like every other American,” Mr. Obama said at a news conference. “And I think that principle will win out.”

The president went on: “I think we’re moving in a direction of greater equality and – and I think that’s a good thing.”

Mr. Obama used those same words – “a good thing” – to describe the debate in New York that led to last week’s passage of a law making same-sex marriage legal.
A good thing... Apparently he's evolved into Martha Stewart:

His position evolved in the same manner Hillary Clinton's position on Iraq evolved ... right in the direction the wind was blowing. That's pragmatism for you. (As opposed to thoughtfulness or principle.)

Evolve in one direction.

What does it mean if your belief system is going in the opposite direction? There's an implied message in there.

I only know Althouse via her written words and her blogginghead "tort"uous segments. However, she is much like Martha in her dominatrix, controlling, prissy ways. I surmise Martha might be a role model, on a conscious or subconscious level.

He just doesn't want to cross that line because of the open secret that the African American community is the part of our society that is least tolerant of LGBT lifestyles.

If he doesn't get massive Black turnout in '12 he's toast.

The people don't seem to be taking the cue from their betters yet though.

Incidentally, my principles got me there without any evolution needed. You could call it intelligent design if you wanted to.

Here's a list of names known to the public who are not doing well, today:

Obama

Abrahamson

Bradley

Here's my list on people who feel fit as a fiddle. And, wouldn't mind eating any of Martha Stewart's lovingly crafted baked goods:

Justice Prosser

Ann Althouse

Bibi Netanyahu

You know, I blame obama for making the reputation of harvahd just float in a toilet you can't flush.

That's a good thing.

So is his sweater an homage to Glee?

Blogger's commenting system still bugs me a little. Has there been an update on when we finally get Althou.se?

He did that bouncy-joggy thing as he approached the podium. As if it were a jet or something.

The aroma of toast wafting from the WH is also a good thing.

You know, with all the pictures of obama out on the golf course(s). He's never once been seen with his birth certificate slapped up to his forehead.

Obama lies a lot. Was this the qualifier? We were also told he was an "orator," among his many gifts. But that's before we learned he couldn't memorize a speech for beans. And, has peculiar habits when he's reading from a teleprompter.

On the other hand, Martha Stewart is gets viewers. Yes. She works with her hands while she's talking to the camera.

How come Drudge is running with the headline that John Fucking Kerry says he'd have made a swell president? Don't ya have to win, first?

Carol_Herman said...

Mark, what can obama promise the black community in 2012? The "free mortgages" ... and jobs ... hasn't panned out very well.

Today, Professor Jacobson, I think ... put up a coming ad from obama. Starting the 2012 season early.

The ad says "It's Bush's Fault."

Doesn't seem to carry all that much weight with me.

@Irene

When Obama does that it always reminds me of this.

BJM, haha! I loved Richard Pryor.

Google engineers are "actively" working on extracting my archive. It's a special project, and I have no idea how long it will take at this point.

To say that a black man is "evolving" is racist.

Ah, I thought maybe you had an intern working on it or something. Looking forward to the grand opening.

In the meantime I think I'll go buy some mason jars (for storing pipe tobacco) at Amazon.

I've had teams of people working on it for over a month. That's how locked-up my archive is inside Blogger. There's an "export" button, but that doesn't mean Blogger with give up your archive when you want to break free.

If you wait too long and get too large before you try to get out, like me, you'll look like this.

Scott,

That's weird coming from a stalk of broccoli. I don't know why, but it just is.

1/2 black.

So 1/2 racist.

Shouting Thomas said...

The problem here is that gay marriage is a Stuff White People Like issue.

Obama needs blacks to vote as a block for him if he's going to be re-elected.

Blacks, believe it or not, or usually old fashioned Christians.

So, who does he appeal to? The Swipples? Or blacks?

Shouting Thomas said...

And, Althouse, you are one of the Swipples!

I know you picked Alan Cummings on purpose.

Phil 314 said...

from Wikipedia re: Mr. Cummings.

Once described as "a frolicky pansexual sex symbol for the new millennium", Cumming has stated that he considers himself bisexual, "although the pendulum has obviously swung".[18] Prior to the civil union, Cumming dated both men and women. Previous relationships include a two year relationship with actress Saffron Burrows, a six year relationship with theater director Nick Philippou, and a 1985 marriage to actress Hilary Lyon that lasted eight years.

Apparently his position is evolving too!

There is a certain deeper irony to the juxtaposition of homosexual coupling and evolution.

Michael said...

Platitudinous.

edutcher said...

The way things are going (anyone who saw Peter Schiff on the Judge tonight knows what I mean), he will need as much of that 1.3% as he can get, although Mark is correct.

Over the years, it's been made very clear black people bristle when homosexuals try to compare their push with that of blacks, so Little Zero can only go so far.

Special project?

More like special operations.

It may be time to see if Team Six has anyone available to blast the archives loose.

And you're vegetablist.

Broccoli are smart. I teach constitutional law at the University of Chicago.

I'm cratering,

I need money,

I need your money,

I'll say anything,

Really.

Good enough to see a second time.

Luther said...

My point, I guess, is are we trying to outsmart evolution. Thinking our 'enlightened' class paves the way.

I think this discussion deserves much deeper thought, not just the whims of the moment.

Titus said...

Blacks, for the most part, hate gays.

Obama needs all the blacks, therefore, he will totally evolve if and when he wins the next election.

Kirby Olson said...

Evolution brings up animals and animal rights. Obama is way behind. Most of us are already thinking about animal marriages, and cross-species arrangements. Gay is old news when it comes to humans. We should be thinking instead about animal marriage. The president should put a second gear into his mental wheelchair.

The question of animal divorce should not be sniffed at. If animals can marry, should they be able to divorce? If a lion marries a hippo, should they decide that "irreconcilable differences" prevent a true union of souls? I think not. At least if I were the Pope of such unions it would be rare that I would grant a divorce. The animals might yowl and snip at one another, but I think they would work it out, eventually. So, yes to animal marriage. No to animal divorce.

Obama still needs a few million years to get to human level.

I doubt if you'll ever see your archive moved. I think they're blowing smoke up your your know what.

Another reason that Blacks don't like gays, is that they are treated like a minority, and Blacks have to compete with them.
