Girl talk — Barbara Walters refers to Sarah Palin's "considerable weight"...

... and Sarah Palin calls the GOP — "these boys" — "silly." And "impotent and limp."

And I love when Walters gives Todd a chance to speak, limits him to 3 words, then scolds him for saying more than 3 words.

I'll bet you do.

Your obsession with feminism is pretty stale.

And you're very good at scolding. A thorough schoolmarm.

God Sarah Palin is such a fucking hot woman. If I was Todd, you'd never hear three words out of me because my lips would be busy elsewhere.

Everything about her makes me want to have babies with her while she whisper's "tax cut" into my ear.

Man ... I think I just came a little bit.

The Lefties, including the RINOs, think they can push her around because she's a girl and, in their little world, the girls can have an opinion, as long as it's an approved opinion, but, otherwise, they're supposed to stay in the background and let the men run things.

They never met a girl raised in the country.

You see, the GOP is finished. The sad thing is that they do not know it. From my peers (other consultants to the Admin)

You mean the ones who told him to run off to Michelle and leave the country in the hands of a convicted perjurer and impeached former President?

You need to get out more.

The absolute last thing that appeals to me about Sarah Palin is that she stimulates Althouse's feminist gland.

Every woman in my family worked when I was a kid in the 50s and 60s. They worked mostly at hard labor jobs in factories and farms, right alongside the men. And, generally, they made just about nothing, just like the men.

My mother drove a tractor and plowed the corn and soybean fields from her 14th birthday. She worked on the assembly lines in factories most of her adult life.

Feminism is the province of upper middle class and upper class women. Those are the women who didn't have to work.

This has always been the case. Literary feminism was the cause of upper class women in the UK.

Anonymous said...

Or, to be more blunt about it, Althouse's feminism is all about class snobbery.

Palin is not operating on the assumptions you're operating on, Ann.

Sorry, Ann and I disagree on many things, but this is simply not true - as evidenced by her discussions re Clinton's sexual abuse and all the Valenti Monica- Wanna-Be's infesting 3rd wave feminism. If you were here in 2006 and had participated in these discussions, you would grudgingly agree.

I get that you want to nail her to the wall, but this weapon will break in your hands.

"Determined. Patriotic. Faithful."

This is considered hate speech by most Democrats. It cuts too close to the bone.

They do not have a determined President. He has caved on every single issue that he ran on from Gitmo to Bush tax breaks for rich billionaires(notice how Barack Obama is now against taxes on millionaires now that he is one!)

Democrats do not have a patriotic president (or first lady, who remarkably admitted on camera that she has never been proud of America ... at least until Americans elected her husband.)

And Democrats do not have a faithful president. He has abandoned every single issue that Democrats hold dear ... not to mention the fact that he has cheated on his wife.

Democrats hate Sarah Palin precisely because her defining characteristics - which Americans of all political stripes aspire to - are the exact characteristics they are unable to locate in the personality of Barack Obama.

Determination.

Patriotism.

Faithfulness.

It's wonderful knowing that soon it will be morning again in America and this horrid 3am nightmare that Hillary and Bill warned us about will be behind us.

Don't want to "nail her to the wall."

In general, I like Althouse and I appreciate her work in producing this forum. She's doing a great job.

Everybody's got their blind spot.

At the top of the postings right now, she's blasting the New York Times for dragging out the corpse of President Nixon for the ritual scourging.

I'm just asking: When is she going to stop dragging out the corpse of 70s feminism for the ritual invocation?

Time to give it up. It's boring and used up. And, it's just an excuse for her to bitch again about her endless obsession with her own self-interest.

Nothing wrong with self-interest, but most people put some limits on the extent to which they prosecute it.

Yes. This is a big hurdle for her. For me to take her seriously, at least. Her statements in reaction to the Letterman/Bristol jokes was kind of embarrassing.

However, I do agree with her about the GOP. Especially after this big stimulus they passed with Obama. Way to go, guys.

Saint Croix said...

Is it intentional? She has a great sense of humor and a bawdy one. Or is it subliminal? Right after that she uses "faithful" to describe herself.

One thing I find really awesome about her is how sexualized she is. She's the opposite of the desexualized, or asexualized, feminist woman. She is comfortable in her sexuality. She is happy being a woman. Impotence jokes would seem hostile from most feminists. From Sarah it's no big deal.

I like that Todd's wearing a baseball cap. And he's unshaven. It's like he walked in from mowing the grass. He's polite but his dress speaks volumes. "Independent," and "Don't give a damn what you think."

I like how Sarah shoots guns on TLC, and then gives a girlie interview. She's aware of her public persona (how can she not be), and yet she's not at all formal or uptight. She is so natural. What comes across is a complete confidence.

I wonder how much behind-the-scenes wrangling was done for this interview? You have no idea that Walters is on the View. I see no bias. Of course it's a softball interview. That's what she does. What is interesting is that Sarah Palin is getting the softball treatment. Wow. It's almost like she's a human being.

2. Palin is the all powerful puppet master throwing her considerable weight behind candidates and completely destroying the best laid plans of the elitist politicians who know best.

You say you don't care if she gets in office or not, but clearly you have a thing for her. Or at least you have a thing for her as your generic idea of a woman.

OTOH, you always rail on about how the "homosexuals" are getting a slice of your pie, so to speak. If that's the case, why would you talk about being in "your right man". You haven't said anything that would "peg" (pardon the pun) you for gay. In fact, you go on about what a rabidly heterosexual wolf-man you consider yourself to be. Well, there is a middle ground. It is possible to reply without insults.

Do I like that she is tough? Yes. But this behavior isn't "tough," it's posturing. She absolutely has to come across as above it in order to be taken seriously by people who don't already support her.

Discussions about Palin are so strange. The discussion almost never is about policy. Lots of talk about what a fine woman she is, how tough she is, how she would whup you...all kinds of odd fantasies about her. So much of it has to do with sex. And this from her supporters!

She is so often compared to Reagan, but when Reagan was serious about politics, was he routinely described in sexual terms?

Palin's been hammered 24/7 for over 2 years. I've never seen a VP candidate, Governor, and possible POTUS candidate, subject to such non-stop tasteless abuse.

Bush got some of the same treatment, but that was AFTER he became POTUS. This has actually made her stronger. The libs/left have nothing more to throw at her. She's shown she can take it and dish it right back.

Once she gets in a debate with those other limp droning Republicans and holds her own on policy matters - she'll do well.

But she still won't be nominated. She's too popular, charismatic, and conservative. Republicans hate that. They like moderate, boring old guys, with executive hair.

Actually, Todd looked sort of thin and drawn. Usually he looks so robust. Maybe he wasn't expecting to participate and didn't get make-up for the camera lights.

And really... a hat?

Even so, I think that he's interesting. Certainly every bit as interesting as any other political spouse.

The criticism that Palin lost the Senate is ridiculous. The GOP expects not to have to work very hard. No one knows if they're limp or impotent because they never seem to *try*. They don't try, so who's going to stick their neck out and attempt to run for office when they don't have any reason to expect support?

Synova said...

Now, she's talking about nameless people who say she was a bad influence and lost seats... that leaves out Rove, right? And who else?

Calling people who won't identify themselves names, doesn't seem like "name calling" in the classic sense. Who is she calling impotent and limp? And they're hiding behind Barbara Walters' skirt, no? Nameless persons having someone air their grumbles who is just passing along the words and not saying so herself...

A named person making the claim that Palin lost seats or lost the Senate could be asked to specify, to support the argument, and then an answer could be given and the matter discussed. If there is no way to know who to respond to about it then the statement sort of just stands there.

In general though, the GOP hasn't been aggressive about supporting candidates, and certainly not challengers or "new blood" or anyone facing a hard fight. It's much easier to blame a spoiler than examine what could have been done differently in-house.

I think it's pretty clear, BTW, that Palin isn't looking to a GOP chair position. Not even.
