"Supporters of the [Obama family's] getaway include Hugh Taylor, owner of the Vineyard's The Outermost Inn."

"Says Taylor, brother of singer James Taylor: 'They should just take a walk on the beach, get squirted in the face by a clam, watch an osprey. What I would like to see (Obama) do is just enjoy this place with his children.'"
***

You just call on a clam,
And you know wherever I am
I will squirt you, oh yeah baby
Right in the face.
Just take a walk on the beach,
I will you a lesson teach.
I will squirt you, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a clam.

Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a clam?
People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
They'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh, but don't you let them...

Thank you President Obama for your bold and decisive leadership earlier this year. We are now bearing the fruit and coming out of the deep recession that gripped this nation. Enjoy your well deserved vacation sir!

I'm sure he meant that he wants a clam to get all wee wee'd up in Obama's face.

Hopefully he finally gets a respite from that vast right wing conspiracy of nazis, mobsters, traitors, sinners, robber barons, and racists (have I missed any names the Dems. have flung around?) that have been preventing him from implementing his utopia.

I loved this at the top of Drudge right now:

President leaves Washington for summer vacation...
immediately followed by:
OBAMA HIKES 10-YEAR DEFICIT TO $9 TRILLION

So, while many of us cannot afford vacations because of the economy, and neither will our children and grandchildren, the President and his family are running off to an exclusive 28 acre getaway on Martha's Vineyard - where they will be spared the sight of unsightly wind turbines by the Senator who made the island famous.

And, then just to see where our post-racial President has taken us, the next articles are:
NY Gov. blames his problems on his race...
'The next victim is President Obama'...

If LEL did not post here a bit recently, I would have thought that this was sarcasm, or an attempt at humor. But I do believe he is serious.

I thought presidents were supposed to stay in DC and suffer! Oh, that was just Bush, because he's evil. Obama is delicate and compassionate and needs a break.

Things not to expect in vacation news: Cindy Sheehan's protest against Obama or the fact that owner of his vacation place is a Republican.

BH,

You know, I actually think Lee is in the right here.

It takes a decisive man to delay the release of bad budgetary news (shorting the debt by $2 trillion) by a week or two and then releasing it on a Friday evening as you're on your way out the door for a 10 day vacation.

Truly this man is a living example of political courage.

Hey! I am waiting for the obligatory post about this economic recovery and the rising markets being "a dead cat bounce." I would guess this cat has now bounced three or for times now. LOL

Jayne,
President Obama inherited the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. When history is written it will show that it was better to jump start the economy with stimulus spending than to let it languish like what happen in Japan during the 1990s. Also, in the long run it would have added more to the national debt to have the economy in a long term slump. Getting the economy going will go a long way in reducing deficits. With a little work we should get back to having Clinton like surpluses by the end of the seventh or eight year of Prsident Obama's administration. :>

Funny. That people criticize, with no view to what he inherited. Yeah, dude, take a frikkin vacation.

Now, Mr. Lee, I happen to agree with you that the financial institution bailouts and even the stimulus spending (has any been spent yet?) we necessary under the dire circumstances.

But "Clinton like" surpluses? You have to be totally out of your fucking mind to believe that. Huge growth in government expenditures, massive new programs (get a clue--health care will be costly), cap and trade taxes a drag on the economy, demographic shift to more retirees, less wage earners, problematic effect of tax increases, rising cost of energy, JUST TO NAME A FEW.

Final clue: There were no "surpluses" under Clinton. As we have under every President since the early 1980's, we were financing government by using tax receipts of social security to buy treasury bonds in the so called "trust fund" and the tax receipts in the Clinton "surplus" years were based on a unsustainable bubble economy. For the same reasons, the deficits were even worse than reported under Bush.

The bubbles have burst, Mr. Lee. You are living in a fantasy world.

I think you very optimistically, and naively believe that Keynesian stimulus works and that the "stimulus" bill that was passed last winter provided that. I think that both are very much open for debate.

Indeed, why would the economy been in a long term slump? Why do you think that the "stimulus" bill, the budget Obama signed into law, Cap and Trade, and Health Care reform, individually, or combined would have helped the economy and/or reduced the deficit?

Also, I mentioned this earlier, but you may wish to look at: Obama to raise 10-year deficit to $9 trillion before declaring that Obama will be running surpluses in the next 6-8 years.

Hey - "dingrat" - Longest serving Representative and former Chair of the House Committe on Energy and Commerce until ousted by Waxman this year.

Lee,

Well seeing as how far more articulate posters than I have answered you're general points regarding surpluses and deficits I think I'll address your Japan point.

Japan did not sit on it's hands after the asset bust. No, they began bailing out failing businesses while engaging in massive govt. spending on public works. Why that sounds quite familiar doesn't it?

This did nothing but increase their debt, weaken the yen, and allow non-profitable companies to survive on the public dime.

There are some great vacation spots in Michigan, and given that our economy is collapsing a little tourism would help.

But then Obama seems to like those rich white folks.

As far as jump starting the economy, read Mark Steyn today at Instapundit. The rest of the world is coming out of the recession while the three big stimulators (US, UK, Italy) are lagging.

But we've killed more evil cars than they have, I bet!

=====================
The problem with Michigan for a vacation is that Obama has a retinue of insiders. That connected people wish to network with.
The Vineyard has the Black Elites, the Jewish families of money and clout who summer there, and the oldline WASP Elites. Celebrities! Those who aren't at the Vineyard can fly their private jets in quite easily from the Hamptons. Or the Harvard and Yale crowd who don't have private jets still can get there on a day trip..
You might get to pass a card to Rahm's assistant at a lobster stand mentioning how your "max'd out for Obama" law firm is now representing Big Pharma and eager to help the Admin..

Michigan has none of that.

Flyover Country.

In a nation controlled by lawyers & Ruling Elite cabals - not The People - what Michigan wants only is important when you are forced to go there and make promises for votes...or cut backroom deals with Michigan's own power brokers from the Ruling Elites.
