The handwriting is on the lake.

Lake Mendota

I feel like I can almost read it. But, no, no....

Lake Mendota

The lake has nothing to say. Carry on...

1,2,3...6 people enjoying all that beauty? And pool attendance down? I guess people in Madison really don't like watersports.

It's a big lake, chickenlittle.

Makes me want to jump in my canoe and go for a paddle.

OM: yes, I know, I once cross-country skiied across it to Governor's Island in January.
Tell me, do they still put up the ol' Head and Torch in the winter?

I don't think so. I'm embarrased to say I rarely get down to the Union in the winter (I work on the west end of campus).

It may be mirror writing, meant to be read from below. Try reversing right and left.

Trees put out an entire library every year, every page the same; and then burn it all in the fall. Repetition is their thing, like modern song lyrics, or William Dunbar.

Anyway there's no bookshelf problem in nature.
