Beautiful Badlands.

Seeking out the cosmic aesthetic of the Badlands:

Ann, I hope you said 'hi' when you passed Mrs. Pogo and her sister there!

There were so many bikers in Wyoming and South Dakota. Every single bike was a Harley. Almost no one wore helmet.

The quality of these photos knocks my socks off. I just made this trip, driving the opposite direction. This camera would have been nice.

PS: Did you stop in Deadwood?

I was terrified taking the second and third picture. On the third one, I tried to act like I wasn't photographing the man. I considered asking him if I could take his picture, but decided to just sneak it. On the second one, I was afraid pulling up to this desolate place. In the past, doing something like this has usually caused a dog to appear out of nowhere and threaten me. In this case, it caused a man to emerge from a trailer that was right next to the building. I was in the car and alert about threats, so I just drove right off. I wish I had dared to take more photos like this, but as a woman traveling alone, I was cautious, probably too cautious, but you never know....

I've experienced the same suspicion (man coming out of trailer)when taking an innocuous photo of an obvious PO (photo opportunity). Of course you can hardly explain that you're just taking a photo of their weirdly coloured home/whatever as they may feel insulted.

I've enjoyed all the photos of your trip and actually found myself looking at Google maps yesterday to find the route your spoke of. In particular I liked yesterday's high mountain meadows pictures. Very nice, thanks for sharing.

Thanks. I've got tons more pictures to upload and dribble out in the next week or so.

Great photos.

Have you seen Badlands by Malick? Masterpiece--and will echo your photos.
